Flower Friday and Pawlympics Update

Hello everyone. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie host Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Our long, hot, dry summer continues. We had some rain in the past week, but a lot more is needed to green up the lawn! Our garden Buddha enjoyed the showers underneath the shelter of his giant milkweed plants. I hope he's praying for some more of that stormy weather!

Our big hydrangea bush, that is usually covered with flowers this time of year, has only put out a few blooms. But the bees and wasps are glad to have them!

Ghostwriter thought these black-eye-susans were a loss. But they perked  right up after the rain.

This time of year is usually big spider time. But all we can find are little ones. I think the birdies are eating them, or else they just don't have enough bugs to eat in this heat wave. This one in the picture below was actually quite small in it's web among the lily-of-the-valley leaves.

Here is this week's mystery bug. Ghostwriter found it munching on the milkweed leaves. We thought only monarch butterflies like milkweeds. But after a bit of research, we found out this is actually called a milkweed beetle, and is completely harmless. We still haven't seen any monarch caterpillars or butterflies, though.

The roses are making a come-back after the drought and being devoured by Japanese beetles in July. Those bugs were terrible this summer, and decimated the birch and linden trees too!

Here's our old fashioned hosta by our back door, with no slugs on it this summer!

But that's not all! Hailey and Zaphod hosted Freestyle Napping today too. Wow! What a lot of contestants they had! Amazing! See for yourself at: kten-haileychronicles  Here are our entries:
