Every Other Weekend

I see you've got your white pants on.

So I guess that means you're going to work.

Sigh.

What's A Deductible?

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your amiable doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

There has been nothing going on here lately! I mean, we've seen the snow, we've chased the squirrels. we've looked at the birdies, we checked out the yum yums, and we've taken our naps. So we decided to look back at some of our old TDBs from years ago. Here's one from 2013. Unfortunately the exquisitely beautiful Irish Setter The Lady Galadriel, pictured below, has since crossed the rainbow bridge, but we thought everyone would love to see her again.

Good evening everybody. This is The Daily Bone, and I’m your humble doggie host, Chester L. W. Spaniel. Save up your squeaky toys! You’ll need them to pay the deductible!

My erudite colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel and I are getting tired of hearing the same old thing on the news over and over again. I’m sure you know what I mean! We doggies tried to figure out O-care using squeaky toys and the cost of vet visits. But we kept coming up with negative numbers, especially when it came to deductibles. But you know we doggies are not very good at math. We also had a heated disagreement about the monetary value of squeaky toys. Joey dog doesn’t think the government will accept my ragged old squeaky toys as payment for my insurance premium. Yum yums, on the other hand, might work. So why don’t we just pay the vet directly with yum yums (or squeaky toys) instead of involving the government in the middle of the transaction? We decided it didn’t make sense in terms of doggie logic, and the humans must be crazy. Anyway, here we are in the newsroom trying to figure out what else to talk about today.

Fortunately, we heard from our good friend The Lady Galadriel (Lady) today. She called to tell us about the strange things her humans have been doing out in the yard. For some reason they’re digging up the grass, and making long, straight rows of plants all cataloged and identified with special little tags. She is totally mystified! I asked Lady if she tried giving the plants a good sniff to figure out what they are. She said she doesn’t spend much time outside because in her part of Planet Florida there are lots of nasty ticks that bite and make her delicate, sensitive skin all itchy and inflamed. I happened to get a tick stuck to me once this summer, and it was not a good experience! Bleah!

These are the rows in Lady's yard.

So then Joey dog and I thought about other instances where humans plant things in straight rows. Our yard has a few rows of flowers which I routinely dig up whenever I suspect a mousie might be hiding under them. (I’ve gotten into big trouble for doing that!) Then we remembered ghostwriter talking about driving past big fields of corn on her way to work. These fields were all planted in perfect rows. Joey dog pointed out that the Yum Yum Coalition has corn listed as a delicious summer time treat along with tomatoes and pears. We suggested to Lady that perhaps her humans are doing some type of farming, and that yum yums might ensue from their efforts.

Did you say yum yums?

Lady perked up about that. Yum yums are the most important part of her day. Joey dog and I can agree with that. But then Joey dog took doggie logic a bit farther. Maybe the rows of plants Lady’s humans were planting are like a savings account they could use later if they had to pay a big deductible. But why give the government the yum yums when you can eat them yourself, Lady argued. I was still puzzled about what, exactly, a deductible is. It kind of sounds to me more like a defense against the duck dynasty. You know, a de-duck-tible? Joey and Lady told me to shut up and go sit in the corner.

So, after all that discussion we doggies still haven't figured out what a deductible is. And that's a memo.

Sheesh!

You know, today some of our good Blogville friends are having a Fairy Tale event. I wonder if this story would count as a fairy tale? It has a beautiful lady and two handsome gentle-doggies.

But seriously, here's a link to the Beaglebratz Lady Shasta and Lord Shiloh to start off the fun:

It's A Deluge!

Good morning. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your soggy doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I'm live in the back yard where it's raining like crazy.

It's supposed to rain all day and night too. It's decimating our wonderful snow and making big wide gaps of grass and mud.

The Stodgy Robin Society thinks this is great weather! In fact, I heard them singing this morning. They're been hopping all over the wet lawn catching big fat slimy cold worms.

Yuck!

My esteemed associate Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel decided to decided to skip this report and take a nap. (He hates to get his feet wet.)

Rain doesn't stop me! I'll charge through it, splash in the puddles, and trample through the mud!

Wow! Look at all the great puddles!

But eventually, even I gave up and headed inside.

But I'll continue to keep a close watch on things from my drive-through barking window.

(My humans are hoping this rain doesn't turn into an ice storm.)

A Very Dreary Day

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your friendly doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It was a very gray day today! Most of our photographs came out dark because of the thick cloud cover. But as you can see we still have some snow in the back yard to give relief from the steady gloom. The Stodgy Robin Society came to visit our silver maple tree at precisely 5PM. Sometimes they just sit there looking down their beaks on us doggies and the other birdies! But today I saw them doing acrobatics as they tried to pick off the last remaining hawthorn berries. They were also down on the ground hopping around on the patches of lawn that weren't covered with snow. It looked like they were having a great time, and thought maybe they're not so snooty after all.

So I ran out there to join them!

I was wrong. They all flew away.

Grumpy birdies!

Saturday With Joey Dog

Greetings food fans, fellow wise old doggies, and loyal readers. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your droll doggie reporter Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

It was our favorite miniature human's third birthday Thursday. Happy birthday Ryan!

And now, I'm going to present a series of photos of my ditzy colleague Chester L. W Spaniel, and you erudite elder doggies out there tell me what they mean.

Answer: dum dum hasn't figured out that chasing snowballs is not a fruitful endeavor! The yum yum doggie treats are in ghostwriter's right coat pocket. If you would be so kind as to hand them over now. A bit of remuneration is in order for standing out in this cold, soggy slop!

The snow is turning into slush, as you can see. There were lots of birdies in the treetops soaking up the evening sunshine. Some of them were singing too.

House finch.

Robin and starlings.

We have almost a full moon rising tonight. That means Chester is out sitting in the yard and howling. I'll just take this opportunity to have a nice, peaceful nap!

Oh, I almost forgot my food report. As you can see, it's nothing much new. I think humans are creatures of habit!

Western omelet with whole wheat toast.

Stir fry with baby bok choy and udon noodles.

Ham, baked sweet potato, steamed vegetables.

Now, where was I?

Oh, one more thing. Ghostwriter had to go to take care of our dear Oma Thursday and didn't get home till this afternoon. She's trying to catch up on all of our good Blogville friends. She says she's going to look at as many as she can, but might not comment on all of them. Oma is on the mend now.
