Squirrel Tails

Greetings friends and fans! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

2021 was a tough year, that's for sure! That terrible covid virus is still around and my ghostwriter, being a nurse, has to always be on guard for it at work. To wrap it all up with a big, sad bow, not only did our Oma pass away, but one of GW's coworkers who had just retired, and another coworker's mom also passed!

But I'm not going to let the whole year end without a little bit of levity! I have a couple funny squirrel stories for you! Here are a few pictures of one of the more acrobatic squirrels trying to break into our squirrel-proof birdie feeders.

Hey! Where are the seeds?

He picked a bad time for his raid, since the feeders were almost empty that day!

This one looks like it has some seeds.

He thought he was so smart jumping to the other feeder, only to discover his weight on it caused the ports to close.

Aw nuts!

Screwy squirrel!

Another day, alias Twinkletoes III decided he was going for the window feeder. He jumped up there several times even with my ghostwriter looking straight at him, and me barking too!

He became quite disgruntled when he realized the suet cages were still empty.

"Hey dogface! Yeah, and your ugly human too! It's the end of December and there still isn't any fresh suet in this here feeder! I'll have you know, that with interest, you now owe me 20,000 peanut butter sandwiches, AND at least as many hunks of suet, preferably the kind with seeds and fruit in it!"

I replied, "OK, sure. I'll have Dad do that right away!"

So Dad filled the suet cages, and put fresh seeds in the feeder. Then GW sprinkled the lot of it with hot red pepper powder! We haven't seen him since!

Heheheheh!

Hope you have a Happy New Year!

Thank you very much, Ingrid, for the beautiful memorial picture of our Oma. And thank you to all of our blogger friends who gave their kind condolences.

Our Oma

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your wistful doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

We're so glad all of our blogger friends have been having some good, fun times enjoying their Christmas celebrations. Your blogs have been helping us keep some Christmas cheer in this sad time since our Oma passed away December 13 at age 95.

All of my human family came here to visit, and it was great to see everyone, although we wished Oma could have been with us. We did our Christmas dinner on December 19, since my ghostwriter had to work through the whole Christmas weekend.

The weather out here in WNY has not been frightful for a change. We had a couple days of snow, but it soon melted.

We didn't have a Christmas tree in my house, but outside, on the snowy days, the trees decorated themselves.

Oh oh oh oh! I almost forgot! I got a new squeaky toy for Christmas!

Mr. Bones Daily is for the Birds!

Greetings friends and fans! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

As you might know, my ghostwriter worked all the way through Halloween and Thanksgiving, (and will have to work through Christmas too.)  Mr. Bones Daily, however, has been just hanging around in the garage, supposedly keeping watch on Dad's tools, machines, fishing poles, jars of nuts and bolts and hinges and screws, and other junk stuff.

When I went out to the backyard yesterday, some birdies flew into the garage, and perched right over his head!

So I asked him why he wasn't doing his job. After all, those birdies could poop all over Dad's workbench! This was his reply:

It's too cold. I'm frozen stiff!

You have GOT to be kidding me!

So I chased the birdies out all by myself. Harumph!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program to bring you this special report. Today it snowed all day long! But I didn't get to play in it. That's because I had to spend the whole day at the vet getting blood tests. Blah! But no matter. My ghostwriter kept watch over the Evil Squirrel Cartel. It started out peacefully enough.

But apparently at least one of them seemed drunk! Indeed, he was seen doing all kinds of weird acrobatics, like hanging upside down from the top of the pear tree. He then came down from the tree and proceeded to do several jumps, hops, and back flips on the ground.

In fact, he was so annoying that the other squirrel that was nearby, chased him away.

Ditzy squirrels!

We now return your to your regularly scheduled program. Good night!

Too Much Working!

Hello everyone! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Sorry we haven't been around much lately. My ghostwriter got stuck working the entire Thanksgiving holiday! They are very short staffed at the nursing home right now, and need her to pick up more work days. But don't worry. Dad is always home to take care of me.

Here in Western New York, we've had snow on and off, but it always melts quickly.

Hundreds of Canada geese are still flying around. They wake us up almost every morning!

Meanwhile, the Evil Squirrel Cartel has been rather annoying! Here are the three we usually see as they snarf up birdie seed that the birdies drop for their feeder.

Get lost!

As if that weren't enough, check out this one hanging on the screen of the kitchen window:

Hey, where's that feeder?

Awe, nuts!

The nerve of that guy!

A little later, alias Twinkletoes III returned to see if the humans had put fresh suet in the feeder.

I'm running out of patience, dog face!

Oooooh, I'm sooooo scared!

In other news, we were very sad to hear that one of our good friends, Abby crossed the Rainbow Bridge recently. Several years ago, Abby accompanied our angel, Joey dog to a big Blogville Valentine's Day party. Those were some great times!
