What We Saw This Morning

This is a TDB news flash update. I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Stephens.

As you know, here in Western New York, we haven't seen the moon since January 28, 2015! It's been missing for almost a week now. Our search has been hampered by cloudy skies and stormy weather. Here is what it looked like the day before it went missing:

Moon at noon.

Moon at 6PM.

Moon at 9PM. Note the planet Jupiter at the left.

But my ghostwriter got up early today and noticed a strange bright light coming through the western window. She looked out and was surprised to see this unearthly panorama:

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, doggies and kitties, this is the moon setting in the west! The bright point to the upper left of the moon in this photo is the star Regulus. It was so spectacular, she stepped outside on the front step in the snow with her slippers on to take this photo!

If you will refer to the website at the end of this post, you'll find out more about the whereabouts of the full moon, planets, and stars in your night sky, and discover that this February full moon is known as the Wolf Moon. I hope everyone takes the time to look up at the sky tonight, and doggies, be sure to howl!

I hope Princess Leah is looking at the sky tonight. It's probably night time in London right now.

Addendum: Here is our first look at the wolf moon rising tonight. I was out running and barking in the moonlight, and heard several other neighborhood doggies barking too. It was a good thing we went out then because the moon and all the stars are now completely obscured by clouds! As they say here, if you don't like the weather, just wait a minute!

  1. Oh Chester, we call it 'Chester's Moon' and I always look up and (*sigh*) think of my darling Chester and his wonderful romantic gesture. Think I might just nip outside again……
