Holiday Traditions

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Today my ghostwriter is going to show you how to make poppy seed cake. This has been a family holiday tradition for as long as she can remember.

Ingredients:
1 can Solo poppyseed filling
4 eggs
2 1/2 cup flour
1tsp baking soda
1 1/2 cup sugar
2 sticks of butter, softened
1 cup sour cream

Separate the eggs into whites and yolks. Beat the egg whites until they're light and fluffy.

Mix butter and sugar. Then add egg yolks, sour cream, and poppy seed filling. In a separate bowl combine flour with baking soda. Then stir into the mix until well blended.

Carefully fold in egg whites.

Spray two loaf pans with non-stick cooking spray, and divide cake batter between the two.
Bake at 350º for 1 hour.

Delicious!

For the past few years, we haven't put up a Christmas tree in our house, because we went to Ryan's house to open presents and celebrate. But this year we have a special visitor coming. If the weather cooperates, ghostwriter is going to pick up Oma from the nursing home on Christmas Eve, and have her stay overnight. We'll have a big dinner and then open presents. So this year, we have a Christmas tree! Hooray! It was so long since I've seen a tree ornament, I thought they were squeaky balls for me to play with. But, I soon remembered not to touch them.

Over the years ghostwriter used to make a lot of her own Christmas ornaments. These include the ones made from eggshells.

Now, here's an update on the Sparrows Inc. Country Club in the Sticks. I went out to see what's going on there today. (As you can see, we've had some snow.)

But nobody was home!

I squeezed my way right through it, and found no birdies at all! Maybe they all relocated to Florida. Hopefully the Evil Squirrel Cartel went with them.

So now I can do some snow zoomies.

Woooooohoooo!

  1. I think you have a downsized Christmas tree just like me. I think the movie Downsizing has something with everything being so small this year. But it is the spirit of the season that counts and I would say your have spirit.

  6. Mom loves poppyseeds in anything - muffins, bagels, cake, bread - but she hates when they get stuck in her teeth:( Thanks for the recipe - bet it is delicious.

We hope the weather behaves and allows Oma to come for a visit - that would be so special.
