Saturday With Joey Dog

Greetings fellow food enthusiasts. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your host Joesph (Joey dog) Spaniel, Doggie Chief Inspector, comestibles division, and founder of the Yum Yum Coalition.

We had a very busy food schedule this week, and I can't wait to tell you about the delectable goodies!

Perogies, Polish sausage, and roasted vegetables.

Salad, mushroom spätzel, and raspberry Jaffa cookies.

Chicken, biscuits, and steamed vegetables.

Spaghetti Dad style: everything all mixed up together in one bowl.

Spaghetti ghostwriter style: sauce on top with meat balls and steamed vegetables.

Monday our humans went to the Yummy Garden Hot Pot restaurant in Brighton. If you have never gone to a place like this, you're in for a surprise, because you have to cook your own soup!

This is how it works: First you get to choose what kind of broth you want. Everyone gets a plate filled with an assortment of foods, like bok choi, mushrooms, crab stick, fish balls, broccoli, rice sticks, taro, sometimes a piece of corn on the cob, Chinese cabbage, and a raw egg to put into your pot of broth. Then you can choose extra stuff like meat, noodles, sea food, exotic mushrooms, tofu, dumplings, etc. to put in your soup and share with everybody. Then you go to the condiment bar and pick out things like sauces, and seasonings. Some crack the egg directly into the soup, and some put the egg in to be hard boiled. It's your choice. It takes a bit of practice to come up with a soup that you like best. Ghostwriter usually gets the herbal broth, and adds udon noodles, fancy mushrooms called tree ears, and seasons it with sesame oil and oyster sauce. It's all terribly messy and lots of fun! The only problem is that there are rarely any leftovers for us doggies!

And now for the Coup De Grâce, pizza and chicken wings on Friday night! Wow!

In other news, my industrious associate Chester L. W. Spaniel has been on constant guard duty because of that crafty squirrel who learned how to get into the window box birdie feeder.

He didn't see any squirrels in the morning. But a bunch of noisy grackles showed up.

Here's Beady Pooflapper coming in for a landing.

Shiny Waddlesquirt is giving us the stink eye!

Big Bubba Dingledoody is keeping a watch on things from the pear tree. I think he's a famous grackle music star or something. He puffs up his oily feathers and then makes the loudest and most horrible sound like chuk chuk chuk TA-WEEEEEEEEET!  Ghostwriter thinks he sounds like fingernails on a chalkboard.

The little birdies are pretty hungry so ghostwriter put a piece of bread in the suet dispenser. Instead of birdies, we got this guy again:

Oh, hello again. Is that piece of bread for me? How nice of you!

If I could just figure out how to get this thing open …

Oommmph. A little help here, please …

Hey wait a minute. Aren't you that doggie that keeps chasing us squirrels around the yard?

Grrrrrrrr. You better believe it bub!

Oh. Well there's no need to be hasty. I have another deal you'll be sure to like! Have you ever gone on a cruise?

I hear the Bermuda Triangle is quite nice this time of year …

And um …

Grrrrrrrr BARK!

It's been a long, busy day!
