Minuscule

Welcome back to The Daily Bone everybody. I’m your humble doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

You don't have to go on an epic journey to see something incredible. If you look carefully, and closely, you will find all kinds of interesting things in your own back yard. Here’s a fuzzy yellow caterpillar that was crawling on top of the compost pile.

A moss pillow.
A weed in the lawn.
A slug on a tiny pine cone.
Mushroom.
More weeds in the grass.
Seedlings.
Bumble bee.

Just keep your nose to the ground and your eyes open!

After the Rain

Hello one and all. This is The Daily Bone and I’m your waterlogged doggie host
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It has been rainy almost all week here. After lunch yesterday there was yet another big thunderstorm. The rain came down like crazy! I took one look and decided I might as well just stay inside and take a nice nap. The thunder wasn’t loud enough to scare anybody.

Yeah, I can sleep through that!
But alas! No sleep for me yet!

My ghostwriter is one of those weirdo humans who likes to go outside immediately after a storm and walk through the puddles. I was summoned for an ad hoc photo session. It turned out to be well worth it, though.

Wow! Who needs a beach when your entire back yard has suddenly become a pond?

Water, water, everywhere!
Splish-splash-splosh.
Hey look: a drinking fountain!

OK, I splashed through all the puddles. Can I have my nap now?

Thanks.

Special Food Section

Hello. Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel here with The Daily Bone. It’s time for our Special Food Section.

Perhaps you’ve noticed I have been trying to get my egoistic colleague Chester L. W. Spaniel to give more time to my food report. If you’ve been following The Daily Bone for a while, you’ll also know my credentials as a food expert. I am the DCI (Doggie Chief Inspector) Comestibles Division for this precinct, and therefore responsible for checking out all food that is brought into and eaten in this house for freshness, palatability, and quantity. I’m also the founder of the Yum Yum Coalition, and maintain the Yum Yum Coalition Safe Food Directory. I research and decide whether certain foods are OK for doggies to eat, and which are not.

So while Chester is outside chasing squirrels, here is today’s food report:

Mom’s lunch today was bhindi masala with added vegies, basmati rice, fresh tomato slices, a glass of guava nectar, and a cup of chai and some shahi jamun for dessert. I didn’t care much for okra in the bhindi masala, but everything else tasted OK. (As you can tell, Mom has been experimenting with Indian food lately.)

Dad’s lunch was a grilled hamburger patty on a bun with ketchup, relish, and onions, and a big glass of diet cola. As a rule, doggies should not eat onions even though they’re crunchy and delicious.

This is a Yum Yum Coalition Safe Food Directory no-no. This moldy zucchini has seen better days and should be remanded to the compost bucket!

And finally, here’s our lunch time treat: left over basmati rice that has been simmered with butter in a rice cooker. Heavenly! Now wasn't that fun?

Rainy Days and Mondays

Hello doggies and gentlemen and ladies too. This is a Daily Bone Special Report. I’m your damp doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It’s raining out! It’s raining real hard and we have flood warnings. There was a big thunderstorm last night, and Dad stayed up until it was over so we wouldn't be scared, and so our ghostwriter could sleep. (She didn't hear a thing!) Usually after a thunderstorm passes the rain stops. But not this time.

My non-moistened colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel and I took a peek out the back door this morning to assess the situation. There were puddles there because the gutters overflowed. Upon seeing this deluge, Joey dog turned away and said, no way Jose! He hates getting wet! I wasn’t too keen on going out in that either, but I did do a cursory scan of the yard for squirrels and chipmunks.

I didn’t see any. I got up the nerve to make a quick foray along the foundation where mousies and shrews like to hide. If any were there recently, the rain washed their scent away. Then I realized I was getting soaked.

I went inside and had a good roll in the blanket to dry off. I decided that if this keeps up, we doggies won’t get much patrol work done; and that the invading squirrels, chipmunks, and mousies were probably staying inside their own homes as well.

After checking the weather report, I found out it's supposed to rain for the rest of the day and then for two more days. So, what do we do on a rainy Monday? Check in with our friends and family!

Charlee Puppy got a new toy.

Joanna had pictures of her camping trip.

Jessy was trying on clothes that were not work clothes.

Our friend Carol sent us a picture of ponies. I love the spotted ones!

Jason and I made a selfie photo.

Joey dog said I forgot to include his food section in yesterday's TDB. So here it is. These are leftovers being packed up. Dad grilled all the meat: hot dogs, sausages, and hamburgers. He made enough other food for an occupying army, so everyone got to take leftovers home with them. Don't worry. There is still plenty left in the fridge for us.

And we just may need it if this keeps up!

Almost Boring Sunday Afternoon

Good evening loyal readers. This is The Daily Bone and I’m your playful doggie host
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It seemed like today would be another boring day. But just when I thought it was time to take an evening nap, our favorite miniature human Ryan came over for a little visit. (Wow, he’s getting big!)

He loves playing with toys almost as much as I do. This is his technologically advanced toy storage facility where he keeps his special toys for when he visits our house.

We had a serious discussion about toy storage devices, I can tell you. His toys are in there and my toys are in my own storage facility in the basket.

And … hey … That’s one of my toys!

Oh, and that’s one of mine too!

Well, that’s a lot more fun that keeping them all crammed inside a basket, so I didn’t mind sharing. We had enough toys to keep us busy for hours. But as quickly as he had arrived, he had to go home … and …

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz …
