Giant Bouncing Balls

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your innovative doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Our favorite miniature human, Ryan, forget to bring home his big bouncing balls.

I'm not very interested in these because they don't squeak, and they're almost as big as me! But don't worry. I thought of a way to put them to good use.

I rolled them all under the pear tree.

Unfortunately, it was a windy day, and the balls kept rolling away.

OK now you all stay there!

I went inside and watched from the drive-through barking window. Sure enough, an evil squirrel soon arrived to steal birdie seeds.

Do you see him there stuffing his face?

Zoom!

Bwahahahahaha! The squirrel planned to jump up into the pear tree, but found out he would have to get around those big balls. He had to make a detour to get to the maple tree. I almost got him that time!

Oh, and I hope everyone is keeping cool in this hot weather.

Balloons Of Doom

Hello there. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your exasperated doggie correspondent Chester L. W. Spaniel itchy associate Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel. Yesterday was a very long and busy day!

We woke up in the morning and saw this:

Balloons had taken over our entire living room! Eventually they ended up in the back yard.

But these weren't just ordinary balloons. They were filled with glitter. It was breezy out and the balloons made funny noises when they moved. Sometimes random ones popped—POW!!!—and sprayed glitter everywhere. Very scary!

Joey didn't mind the balloons because he's kind of hard of hearing. And besides, there was lots and lots of food to watch. Our whole family was there and everybody brought more food.

Here's a tower of home made macaroon cookies!

Our favorite miniature human was there too. He preferred to play with his trucks under the table.

Eventually everyone came back inside the house. Here is our Jason human and our dear Oma who is almost 89 years old trying on funny sunglasses!

This morning everything was cleaned up and the balloons were almost deflated.

We're happy to say, our yard is almost back to normal!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz …

You Never Know What You'll Find

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your cute doggie host Chester L. W. Spaniel.

You might think it gets boring around here. We hardly ever go anywhere. That's because our humans are what you call home bodies. They can't think of any place they'd rather be than home, with us doggies of course. They're also science geeks and nature watchers. One of their favorite sayings is, "If you chase after nature, it will surely run away. But if you sit quietly and wait for it to come to you, it will." Indeed, every day we find a new surprise, and today was no exception.

This is a clear wing moth. It looked like a bumble bee and hovered like a hummingbird.

Here it is next to a much smaller bumblebee.

The wings looked like a blur!

It really liked the liatra flowers. We should grow some more next year!

We also finally saw some monarch butterflies on the milkweed plants. They didn't hang around for a photo session, though. Maybe in a few weeks, we'll have some caterpillars to look at! You never know what you'll find next!

Another New Squeaky Toy

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for this TDB news flash! I'm your jubilant doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel. I received another new squeaky toy! Wow!

Can you believe it? This one looks like a squirrel or a fox, but has a chewy rope for a tail.

Who would do such a thing? It required immediate surgery! I used the thoracic route and removed most of the stuffing and the squeaker. It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it.

Whew! We got it just in time!

I could not separate the rope thing on such short notice, but I'll give it another try later. Oh, and check this out: It's a warning label on a doggie toy! Good grief! Those humans sure are paranoid!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program already in progress.

Wait a minute! This just in: Tibi has just received a new squeaky toy. I shall make a mental note to instruct him on proper squeaky toy technique, since he obviously does not know that he has to chew a hole in it, take out the stuffing, and then remove the squeaker.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program, unless something else comes up.

Flower Friday

Hi everybody! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your cheerful doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel, along with my attentive colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

It's Flower Friday!

Tiger swallowtail on the cone flowers.

Liatra.

Grasshopper on a rose.

Day lily.

Phlox.

Morning glories.

OK, enough of smelly flowers! We finally have some nice weather too. The skies have been clear, except for occasional big puffy white clouds.

The moon has been out during the day lately. I wonder if the Princess saw it from her tower?

The I Can't Think Of Anything To Write Post

Hello. This is your serious doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My ghostwriter has worked sixteen days in a row with only one day off! She has worked double shifts, half shifts, and back-to-back shifts. This is preposterous! Never fear, though. I have a lot of funny pictures to make up for it. You know what happens when ghostwriter is too tired to write, right? I take over and you never know what I might come up with! OK let's go! First up: funny faces!

Next. random fuzzy bumblebee:

Here we have an example of the classic cocker spaniel eye roll:

You don't really think I peed on that chair leg, do you?

How about a few comics?

Dog Eat Doug

Dogs of C-Kennel

Red and Rover

And now a word from my esteemed colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel, Doggie Chief Inspector, comestibles division and founder of the Yum Yum Coalition.

Greetings fellow doggies everywhere! Today I'm showing the optimal angles for some serious food watching. Below, I'm in my favorite spot next to the table. If I'm quiet and patient I always get a few samples of whatever the humans are eating.

Grilled pork chop. macaroni and cheese, with steamed mixed vegetables. Yum!

Below I'm demonstrating the best angle for food watching when your human is cooking food in the kitchen. I'm facing the kitchen, alert for anything that might get dropped while staying out from underfoot. The humans hate it when you're right underfoot while they're cooking. Although it makes it more likely that they'll drop something, it also increases the probability someone will get burned.

Now this, below, is the best angle of all!

Well, that wasn't just a word, Joey. That was more like a dissertation!

Isn't it bedtime now?
