Special Report

Hello everyone. This is The Heavenly Daily Bone, and I'm your angelic doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel, along with my esteemed and angelic colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

Lately our ghostwriter has been complaining about the dreary, depressing, gray weather they've been having in WNY. Joey reminded me that the bottom of those clouds may look pretty dark and dismal to you on earth. But the top of the clouds looks just like snow! So we found a few pictures from some years ago of us doggies romping in the snow.

But that's not all we've been doing. One of our friends here, namely Foley who reports on her adventures across the Rainbow Bridge, told us that we can visit our humans in their dreams. And, we can help to find new puppies too. Ghostwriter has been looking for cocker spaniel breeders in the area, but did not expect to actually find anyone right away.

Well, surprise!

A Little Snow

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your ghostwriter.

Over the last week we got a bit of snow. It wasn't much, but it did look pretty clinging to the trees and bushes, and even the blades of grass.

It brought back memories of angels Chester and Joey running in the snowy back yard.

The Evil Squirrel Cartel continues to conduct raids. I had thrown some stale fried noodles out the kitchen window for the birds before it snowed. One squirrel has been finding them under the snow and eating them.

The Double Doggie Homeland Security System would have never stood for that! (Besides chasing that squirrel off the property, they would have eaten those noodles themselves!)

And then, of course, well earned nap would usually follow.

Trying on Wings

Hello everybody! This is The Daily Heavenly Bone and I'm your ghost writer reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel along with my dearest brother Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

Wow! It was really good to talk with Joey dog again! We had a lot to catch up on.

We're going to use some pictures from past posts of The Daily Bone to illustrate some things about our lives as angels over the Rainbow Bridge.

As I mentioned in my last post, I was going to try on some wings and learn to fly with Joey dog who has been over the  Bridge since 2016, and so has a lot more experience than I do in such things.

Apparently it's not so easy to put on wings. Joey laughed at me, and reminded me of a post from 2015 in which I accidentally got myself tangled up in a blanket.

Dork!

Hopefully I'll figure this out eventually. Till then, we'll catch up on on of our favorite things from the past: napping. Sigh … where does the time go?

Learning to Fly

Greetings everyone! This is The Daily Bone and I'm Chester L. W. Spaniel (and now I'm an official ghost writer too!)

This is kind of weird. I mean my ghostwriter was actually the person who was behind the scenes of all my posts, since I can't really type with my doggie paws. (The official meaning of the word, ghostwriter is: someone who is hired to write literary and journalistic works, speeches, or other texts that are officially credited to another person as the author.)

But now that I'm across the Rainbow Bridge, I'm actually a real ghost and can still write stories just like our friend Foley on her doggie blog from Across the Rainbow Bridge. Oh, and she put me in charge of The Heavenly Bone newspaper. I hope I can manage all of that.

Anyway, my ghostwriter says she's starting to get over the crying all the time stage of losing me, although her heart still aches like crazy. I told her to look back at some of my old posts. Specifically the post from December 31, 2013 (link below) in which I wrote what we doggies thought about the humans' annual ritual of reviewing the events of the past year. There was one line in that post that made her laugh out loud for almost a half an hour! The line about doggies who would rather barf all day rather than see something yet again … I'm not sure why that seemed so funny to her. But it made her heart feel a little better.

Meanwhile, I'm going to try on some wings and practice flying with my brother Joey dog.

Wooohoooo!

Years End

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your guest reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel's ghostwriter. I want to say a heartfelt thanks to all of you who have left comforting comments on our last post about our ace reporter Chester crossing the Rainbow Bridge a couple weeks ago. I'm hoping I can write now without crying. (I'm having a really hard time with this loss.)

It's strange not having a dog in the house. I keep looking at all the spots where Chester used to spend his time, and now he's not there.

The Evil Squirrel Cartel is taking advantage of Chester's absence.

Hey, where's dogface? He still owes me 50,000 peanut butter sandwiches!

Just for that, I'm putting red hot pepper on all the seeds and suet cakes in that feeder. Haha!

Moving on, in keeping Chester's tradition, I went out into the yard and I tried looking up, and looking down to find some amazing things.

Unlike our neighbors in Buffalo NY to the west of us, we only got a thin coating of snow. The snow plow was hardly needed on our street.

Since then, we've seen some spectacular, and ever changing skies.

Today we had some warmer weather, and what was left of our snow melted.

Some of you might be wondering what will happen to The Daily Bone in the future. I hope to keep it going. After all, there are always amazing things to find right in my own yard just by looking up, and looking down. I also hope to get back to writing some more stories and finding out how I might get some novels published.

I am still working at the nursing home, but only one day a week. I think I can handle that. It'll be nice to see my team and patients once a week. Besides, I don't think old "battle axe" nurses like me ever completely retire.

By spring I'm thinking of maybe taking "applications" for the job of reporter here at The Daily Bone. I hope angel Chester helps me find just the right pup for the job!

I wish everyone a Happy New Year!

Thanks again for all the lovely tributes, and comforting words from our dear blog friends.

Getting Comfortable

Hello friends. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Last week, Dad and ghostwriter told me that they are putting me on something called "comfort care." That means they're going to stop making me take yucky medicine.

Phew! That's a relief!

They also said I could eat, or not eat, whatever I want. So lately ghostwriter has been giving me browned ground beef, or boiled chicken. Sometimes I just want to eat whatever my humans are eating. Some days I don't want to eat anything.

Hey, is that chicken pot pie?

Also, I can go out whenever I want, even if I just went out ten minutes ago. And I can lead the way on some short walks, maybe halfway down the street and back, just so I can check out the pee-mail.

Well, I'm an old guy now! It's about time I can take things easy!

Note from ghostwriter:
For the past couple weeks, Chester was showing signs that he was nearing the end of his life. He had lost a lot of weight, was limping due to arthritis, and was becoming confused and disoriented. Trying to get him to take his medicine was at least, a struggle, and at worst almost traumatic. We decided to just let him relax, do whatever he wanted to do, and let nature take its course. The above post was written a week ago, but I never published it, since both Dad and I were busy taking care of Chester's every need.

Today Chester was doing very poorly. I won't go into details. But we took him to the vet to help him to cross over the Rainbow Bridge so he could be with his brother Joey dog, and his sisters Miss Ginger, and Old Charisma. He went very peacefully.

Thank you everyone at South Towne Veterinary Hospital for all of the tender loving care you gave to all of our doggies over the years.
