Hello friends. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.
Last week, Dad and ghostwriter told me that they are putting me on something called "comfort care." That means they're going to stop making me take yucky medicine.
Phew! That's a relief! |
They also said I could eat, or not eat, whatever I want. So lately ghostwriter has been giving me browned ground beef, or boiled chicken. Sometimes I just want to eat whatever my humans are eating. Some days I don't want to eat anything.
Hey, is that chicken pot pie? |
Also, I can go out whenever I want, even if I just went out ten minutes ago. And I can lead the way on some short walks, maybe halfway down the street and back, just so I can check out the pee-mail.
Well, I'm an old guy now! It's about time I can take things easy!
Note from ghostwriter:
For the past couple weeks, Chester was showing signs that he was nearing the end of his life. He had lost a lot of weight, was limping due to arthritis, and was becoming confused and disoriented. Trying to get him to take his medicine was at least, a struggle, and at worst almost traumatic. We decided to just let him relax, do whatever he wanted to do, and let nature take its course. The above post was written a week ago, but I never published it, since both Dad and I were busy taking care of Chester's every need.
Today Chester was doing very poorly. I won't go into details. But we took him to the vet to help him to cross over the Rainbow Bridge so he could be with his brother Joey dog, and his sisters Miss Ginger, and Old Charisma. He went very peacefully.
Thank you everyone at South Towne Veterinary Hospital for all of the tender loving care you gave to all of our doggies over the years.
Our hearts are breaking for you. Thank you for sharing his like with us. He was one of a kind. I'll keep you in my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteSending big hugs. Chester will be missed by all of us in Blogville. <3

ReplyDeleteOh dear, we are very, very sorry to hear this sad news, but relieved at least that Chester received the best sort of comfort care in the last phase of his life. It is the kindest thing we can do for our dogs, to give them a peaceful end. Rest in peace dear Chester. You'll be so missed.
ReplyDeleteSending love and hugs,
Gail and Nobby.
Dear Doggie Reporter, you have filled us up with news for so long ~ how will we manage without you? Your wonderful wanderings through the yard? The evil squirrel cartel, the birdie tales and sky view reports ~ so much more. We've always loved you, always will. Though Mom and Dad knew best, they knew what you were telling them, that Joey needed you and you were ready to be with him, and their love for you allowed them to send you on that journey. Rest well, dear Chester L.W. Spaniel. Maybe you can report the news from heaven? Give it a try, ok?
ReplyDeleteWe are so sad to read this. We have been following along with Chester forever and we are really going to miss him♥ Hugs to you and your family, ghostwriter♥

ReplyDeleteWhen tomorrow starts without me
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm not there to see;
If the sun should rise and find your eyes
All filled with tears for me.
I wish so much you wouldn't cry
The way you did today;
While thinking of the many things
We didn't get to say.
I know how much you love me
As much as I love you;
And each time that you think of me,
I know you'll miss me too.
When tomorrow starts without me,
Don't think we're far apart
For every time you think of me,
I'm right here in your heart.

We're so sad to read this post and know that our nearest Blogville resident has crossed the Bridge. You sure gave Chester the best life he could have asked for. We will miss seeing his cute face as he looked up, down and all around to see what was going on in your yard. The birds in your yard will miss being chased by Chester and we will miss his reports about them with all their colorful names. Our paws are crossed for you, Ghostwriter and your husband as you mourn your dear, sweet Chester.
ReplyDeleteMy very sincere condolences. I know how hard it is to lose a beloved fur baby, especially at Christmas. May the joy he brought to you during his lifetime warm your heart forever more! Love, Dori and Kim

Another shock reading about Chester. He and his brother were two of Amber and Max's first friends when Amber started blogging so many years ago. Now most of our friends are with "DaWeenies" at the Bridge. I am so very sorry for your loss of sweet Chester. There are no words to describe the sadness.
