The Gargoyles Are Out!

Greetings friends and doggies. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your astute doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I'm live and on the spot in my back yard, where a veritable crisis is occurring in the tree tops.

Ghostwriter and I came out here to enjoy the beautiful weather and do a little gardening. But the din is almost unbearable! The reason for all this ruckus and turmoil? The baby grackles have left their nests! I have an exclusive look at one of the little gargoyles hiding in the weeds. Do you see him?

Let's zoom in for a better look. I don't know what his name is yet. Maybe you, my loyal readers will have a suggestion. Remember, they're very ostentatious, and have names to match their habits: screeching, squawking, swooping, and especially pooping!

I chased one of these annoying little brats earlier today. I almost caught it too, but it hopped through the fence. I had grackles dive bombing me left and right! So now, we just want to get a little relaxation in our own yard, and there are at least a dozen of the Great Grackle Flying PTA (Poop Tossers Association) up in the trees cursing and yelling at us!

Hey, watch it bub!

Old Effluvium Scatterstool and his wife Poopsie are up there, along with Chuck and Dimwitty Turdflapper, the Waddlesquirts, and the Crapflingers. What a noise they made! Churk churk churk churk taweeeeeeech!

Ghostwriter and I finally went inside the house. It was apparent we weren't going to get any peace and quiet out here this evening!

Crappy birds! Pfffft!

Well, at least they won't be dropping poo-bombs from their nests onto the cars anymore.

Oh, and they really are homely little buggers. We found a couple photos from a few years ago. I think this is little Buzz Loftyshart on his first day out of the nest in 2013.

And here's one I caught back in May of 2015. Ghostwriter took it from me before I could give it the old shaky-shaky, and then she let it go in the front yard. I think this birdie's name was Shiny Poopenheimer. He sure made a fuss, and didn't even say thank you!

Well, I guess we're stuck in the house again. Maybe there's a movie or something on TV.

(This is actually a pretty good movie.)

  1. We love having our tree but like you hate the bird poo that comes with it. And you ought to see what happens when the geese fly over!

  9. You need to call for reinforcements from all your Blogville pals. If we all gather in your yard, we bet we can make more noise than those grackles and scare them all away.

  12. We don't seem to have many of those grackles here, they must all be joined with your Grackle PTA...but we have a bazillion starlings here.
They eat more in 30 seconds than most birds eat in a day. Sheesh.
We had to take down our suet...did that deter them? Nope. Now they switched to the peanuts and sunflower seeds.
They are such voracious monsters. And they scare off the other pretty birds:(
