Surprise Moth

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your trusty doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Ghostwriter has two cocoons that she and Dad found under the birch tree a couple weeks ago. She's kept them on her desk in her office all this time. We could hear the pupae moving around inside of them sometimes, so we knew they were alive. We all thought they would just be some drab old moths!

Then, on Thursday, one of them hatched!

It took a couple hours for it's wings to unfold.

It's called a polyphemus or cyclops moth, and it's huge!

Then it started flying around! Wow! I thought it was a big exotic squeaky toy for me to play with. But ghostwriter said I had to leave it alone. It was cold and rainy outside, so we didn't want to let it go just then. They put it in the spare room where I couldn't get to it.

Today, Ryan came to visit and he watched as we let the moth go free outside.

I hope it'll be all right now. Bye bye moth!
