Big Game Hunting

Good day friends and fans! This is The daily Bone and I'm your proficient doggie host
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I'm very proud of myself today! I hunted down and caught some bunnies all by myself! Nobody helped me; not even my elderly associate Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel!

Hey, I am NOT elderly!

(Warning. This post contains pictures of cute little rabbits that Chester caught and killed quickly. Keep in mind, cocker spaniels are the smallest of the hunting breeds. Every one of our four cockers has caught something, usually birds, at one time or other. But Chester has been the most enthusiastic and prolific hunter of all of them. Ghostwriter.)

My humans are sure weird about me catching things. Check out this conversation:

Ghostwriter: Chester, did you catch this cute little baby bunny?
Me: Yes! I did a good job and caught it all by myself!

Ghostwriter: But it's just a tiny baby! Poor little bunny!
Me: But it was in my yard hiding in the plants, and I sniffed it out, and caught it, and gave it a shake.

Ghostwriter: What a poor little bun-bun!
Me: But I caught it for YOU! It's my JOB as a sporting doggie to catch things!

Ghostwriter: Daddy! Come look at what Chester did today!
Me: Yes Dad. Look at what a good hunting doggie I am! I caught it all by myself! I'm a good provider, and it's my job as a cocker spaniel to catch things like that!

Ghostwriter: What are we going to do with it now?
Dad: I don't know.
Me: I think we should eat the bunny! Now we can have a really nice dinner! And we can all have a drumstick!

Ghostwriter: I hope there aren't any more little baby bunnies in the yard!
Me: Then I'll find them too!
Ghostwriter: heavy sigh …

Well you know what? We went outside to the yard again a little later, and I caught three more bunnies! We can make bunny stew now. Happy belated Mother's Day to you! I got you a bunny bouquet!

Ghostwriter: Gee thanks. What ever are we going to do with you, Chester?

Me: But I caught the bunnies for YOU! Aren't you happy about them?

    1. I'll tell you a secret Charlie: Dad skinned and dressed those little bunnies and cooked them on the grill and I got to eat them. They were very yummy. Well, it seemed a shame to just throw them in the garbage! Congratulations on catching your mousie, Charlie! We're real good hunters, mate!

  7. Hey Chester can you come to our house and get the bunny that has been hanging out in our yard? It seems to only be there after dark so we never get a chance to find it and "take care of it" like you did those babies.

  8. Chester - you and Lightning would make a good team. He gets the baby bunnies AND the big ones. Mom doesn't know what to do with him. Rabbit stew? Sounds good to us:)

  15. Well done, Chester, well done! You did what God created you to do and well done, Dad, for allowing Chester to eat his catch. I can hear a chorus of WOOFs of congratulations from around the world. Sure, little bun buns are cute but they take food from people's mouths and cause high pressure when they destroy gardens! I am a Standard Poodle and have proudly presented my peeps with birds, the job the Good Lord gave me. Jolie Amie and Granny in Texas'
