The Aftermath

Hello ladies and gentlemen, doggies and kitties. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your soggy doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel. I'm live and on location in my very own swamp.

After a week of thunderstorms and heavy rain, ghostwriter's favorite flowers are almost completely ruined.

Hello Darkness iris is now Goodbye Darkness.

A peony bedraggled and frazzled like the morning after a wild night of indiscretion.

A pooped-out poppy.

But I have a swamp!

I've been having a great time running around in my very own swamp! The ground goes squish, squish, squish as I run!

The grass has grown long because Dad can't mow a swamp. Little mushrooms are popping up all over. Ghostwriter calls these toadstools. Well, I imagine the toads would like this swamp. There are lots of bugs for them to eat, and now we have special chairs for them to rest upon whilst they catch their dinners. Come on over toads! Dine in luxury in my wonderful swamp!

All the silver maple seeds are starting to grow in the long grass too.

Look at all of them sprouting in the gutter! It looks like a Bonsai garden!

Dad went up the ladder to clean them out.

He tossed handfuls of little mini trees and decaying leaves into a bucket on the ground. I just happened to stick my nose into that bucket when a chunk of it plopped right on my head! Hey!

Oh well. No matter. I was already quite a dirty doggie from running through my swamp. So Dad filled up my old swimming pool to get me washed up.

This water was clean before I got in …

After so many gray, rainy days, it was nice to see the sun again!

Ghostwriter said the all the jets seemed like they were trying to sew the clouds together again.

I don't know where she comes up with these things! I think the term is, "going off on a tangent."

But I have a swamp, and a big pile of sticks, and birdies in the bushes, and dirty feet all day long!

I have an old wooden bench and an old gas grill too.

There's a wood pile with mud all around it. The little white dots are hawthorn flower petals.

Ghostwriter says the hawthorn flowers smell terrible. I have to disagree. Then again, she thinks rotten worms stink too, while we doggies like nothing better than to roll on one!

Time for dinner now!

  6. You have a true tresure trove in your yard, Chester - especially the swamp!!! We had similar conditions a week or so ago. Now we have been getting light rain off and on all day and night for days. Nothing is terribly soggy but it sure is humid and sticky.

Hope things dry up and the sun stays out.
