End of the Year

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel. Once again, dear readers, it's time to reflect on the past year and try to make some sense out of it.

First, I have some sad announcements. On December 21, my kitty cat cousin Maddie, aka Medusa, aka The Kitten Overlord, crossed peacefully over the Rainbow Bridge.

I remember when Maddie came to live with us for a while. If I got too close to her, she would punch me in the nose! But we both enjoyed looking out the dining room window and watching birdies.

We also heard about the loss of one of our oldest blogger friends, Hershey on December 3. We're sure going to miss his witty comments! Hopefully his Daddy will still visit us here at The Daily Bone.

Please visit Hershey at: Hershey Barks

(Thank you Ingrid for letting us borrow your beautiful picture tribute to Hershey.)

Now I have a quick word to my Blogville friends: Sorry I haven't been around much to comment on your wonderful Holiday blogs and greetings. My ghostwriter worked straight through Christmas and will be working through New Year too. She's glad to say that the nursing home where she works is still free of covid! But the people who live there are still on lock down and were unable to see their families, except through a window. Here's our Oma waving from the window to her visitors who had to stand out in the freezing cold to see her.

My ghostwriter says she often shows her residents goofy pictures of me to cheer them up.

Moving on to more things from the year 2020, it seems despite all the terrible things going on, we managed to find beautiful and wonderful things right in our own yard. All we had to do was remember to look up and look down.

January sun

February moon

March clouds

April robin's nest

May flowers

June storm

July flowers

August mantis

September toad

October leaves

December snow

We hope you had a wonderful Christmas, and that the year 2021 will be a whole lot better!

  2. Your Oma is lucky that she lives where your Ghostwriter works so she can at least see one of her family up close. It's been a tough year for those in care homes but we are keeping our paws crossed that your mom and Oma can keep that nasty virus at bay. We liked your retrospective of this year so we can all see that it hasn't been all bad. We hope you and your family had a great Christmas and have a Happy New Year!

  3. We are so sorry to hear about cousin Maddie and about your friend, Hershey. It's so hard to lose our furry friends. Oma looks so happy peering out her window and we're so happy that she's safe and healthy. Mom just heard from her friend, Lisa, and the nursing home where Lisa's daughter works has an outbreak of COVID. It's just awful and so scary.
We love all of your 2020 photos through the months!

  5. So sorry to hear about Maddie and Hershey - soft woos and gentle hugs to their families.

And many thanks to Ghostwriter for all that she does for those people at the care facility. So sad for them and for their families.

Thank you for the lovely review of the beauty from your yard - despite the horrible year 2020 was, it was nice to see the beauty you found for us.

  6. A very eventful weekend. We are sorry Maddie passed. She will get special treatment at the Bridge. This is a terrible time. Hopefully better days are coming. Have a good New Year.

  7. I'll miss you, too, Chester old pal! But mommy and daddy will be getting a new puppy, and maybe he'll get a blog. (BTW, it's mommy who brought me here, not daddy, BOL!!)

  8. Dear Chester, GW and Dad.
We are so very sorry to read about Maddie and Hershey getting their angel wings.
I too hope that in time Maddie and Hershey's families will be able to look back at the Good memories.

I am all kinds of happy about your beauitful Oma being well and that a GW and all the staff and residents at the nursing home are healthy.
Thank you for the pictures from WNY.
    Happy New Year

  9. Aww, Chester, we are sorry your kitty cousin became an Angel Kitty. And Hershey will never be forgotten, by those who knew and loved him.

YOpur blog sure reminded us over the past year that even in the midst of crises and other awful things, there are still many things to fill us woth wonder and joy.

Glad your Oma is doing well, as is the facility where your GW works.

Ours has come through their own Covid disaster and seems to be coming back to just a simple lockdown as opposed to all the terribleness of 'the Red Zone'.

  12. Thank you for sharing the good and beautiful with us from this past year. It was sometimes hard to remember that within each difficult day we only had to look around just a little, and put on our listening ears to find that beauty which is really always there. Chester you are a fine and worthy reporter for keeping us well informed. Your hu-mom, a lovely woman for all she gives to others in need, working hard for their safety and comfort. We send soft purrs as well for the rainbow crossing of little Maddie. To all of you, your whole family ~ may the New Year bless you with health and good days. Stay safe. ~ June and Ann ~
