Maybe I Can Be Your Hero

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your indefatigable doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My ghostwriter worked this weekend on the 3pm to 11:30pm shift. Usually she likes to work, but as you know, there is that crummy virus thing going around. GW hardly ever takes selfies, but here she is at work in her PPE gear:

Yikes! She looks like an alien!

She said the mask smelled like chemicals and steamed up her glasses. The gown only came in one size: baggy! Needless to say, it was all suffocating and uncomfortable! Her little old people were confined to their rooms, and were getting confused and agitated because of this change in their routine, and because of all the scary aliens running around like crazy. The phone was always ringing from people asking about their loved ones whom they aren't allowed to visit since the nursing home is quarantined right now. (Oh, in case you're wondering, our Oma is doing OK.) When ghostwriter came home last night, she could hardly walk! Today she's a wreck! There was only one thing to do:

Using my super tennis ball of power, I will make ghostwriter sit on the couch and put her feet up.

Yes indeed! This tennis ball has a squeaker inside it, and it's stronger than the average tennis ball. I have not been able to chew off the cover or take the squeaker out of it the whole time it's been in my possession. This hasn't been from lack of trying.

Hey, what's Dad doing?

Anyhow, my ghostwriter is still sitting with her feet up. And the tennis ball hasn't escaped my grasp and rolled under the couch, as all tennis balls are apt to do.

The front door and the kitchen window are open because it's actually warm out. I hear birdies, and people out walking, and the garbage truck too. Such distractions!

But I will proceed to ignore them, and keep exuding my inherent cuteness, along with the power of the squeaky tennis ball. What an unbeatable combination!

OK. You can go to the bathroom now GW. But you'd better come right back here and sit with your feet up some more.

I am a mighty little man!

  1. Great work, buddy! We send our thanks and appreciation to the Ghostwriter for what she is doing for those people at the home. She is a heroine too. Our human sister-in-law is confined to her room at her nursing home too, and it is so hard for everyone because her dementia has now rendered her without the ability to communicate. They can't really talk to her on the phone, but everyone calls to be sure she is doing OK. Terrible times we are living in.

  4. Chester your mom is one of our local hero's working to keep all those in her charge, and herself, safe. We know it must be uncomfortable wearing all that extra stuff but we want to make sure she stays safe too. Thanks for the update on your Oma. Our Oma gave us a big scare as she got very sick and ended up in the hospital (it wasn't covid-19 but we think it was the regular flu). All this happened while she was wintering in Arizona with her brother. Our Aunt C. flew down there to look after her when she came out of the hospital and now they are both in Detroit where Aunt C. lives. It was quite scary for a while.

We are keeping our paws crossed for your GW and everyone in her care.

  8. Chester you are correct,"OK. You can go to the bathroom now GW. But you'd better come right back here and sit with your feet up some more". It is your duty to see that GW is rested and gets lots of peace and entertainment from you. I can only imagine how confused the residents are ..they really depend on routine. Give GW lots of extra TLC from all of us who thank her

  13. You are a hero, C. Keeping your GW on the couch with her feet up is important work. We think she is strong and brave and compassionate to do what she does. Thank goodness there are people like her in the world.

  14. Oh, yes, petcretary knows all too well what your GW is up against in her facility...its the same at petcretary's. What a mess.
Dementia peeps just do not get it at all...and those masks...they look too scary for them. Not to mention the routines they thrive on and the hugs they used to get are all not allowed...but *she* did sneak one in a few days ago, BOL! (No one is sick there thankfully, we are just being proactive in prevention...)

Hope you are having a good rest with your 'guard'...and lots of squeaking, hah!
