Flower Friday

Greetings friends and fans! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your happy doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

The milkweed flowers are starting to bloom. They smell like honey and attract lots of bugs. In the picture below, can you see a Daddy-long-legs spider, a tiny fruit fly, and an ant? We hope some monarch butterflies are attracted to them too.

The hawthorn tree was full of flowers! Problem is, they smell awful! Dad thought something had died in the corner of the yard. Fortunately they only bloom for a few days! Then they drop their little white petals all over everything like polka-dots. There were tons of blossoms, so hopefully there will be plenty of red berries for the birdies to eat this winter.

Gee, I thought they smelled OK.

Little mushrooms are popping up all over the yard.

Of course, I know not to eat them.

Dad grilled some steaks and topped them with sauteed mushrooms (the edible kind from the grocery store.) I didn't even want to taste them. But I got some pieces of steak. Yum!

Well, back to flowers, the Garden Buddha is getting lost among all the plants growing around him. He looks pretty happy there, though.

These little blue flowers come up every year. We don't know what they're called. They only put up one stem of flowers, and that's all. If anyone knows what they are, please let us know.

The clemetis vine is blooming like crazy!

Mr. Toad is still hanging around our garden. Can you see him under the mint leaves?

There are certainly lots of bugs for him to catch!

Here's a little fly sitting on a flower.

Now I have a bit of sad news.

Just when ghostwriter thought she could put her box of Kleenex away, we received news that another one of our dear friends, Mr. Bailey from the Idaho Pug Ranch, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge! We are so sad for his family.

Please visit Mr. Bailey's sisters, Mabel and Hazel, and their family here:  idahopugranch

  2. We agree with Zoe that those blue flowers are some sort of campanula. There are lots of different varieties. We have a lot of different ones in our yard too. You sure have lots of pretty flowers in your yard. We hope some Monarch butterflies like your milkweed.

    1. I thought maybe they were some kind of campanula too. I wish more would come up. But there's always just one stem with a few flowers on it.
