Squirrels In Love (Bleah!)

This is a fast breaking TDB news flash, and I'm your dutiful doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel. This morning there was a squirrel invasion in MY yard!

I chased them all up the silver maple tree. Ghostwriter counted five that climbed down later and ran away across the greenbelt, and saw another one sneaking away on the side of our house.

When she went up to her office, look what she saw right outside the window. It was alias Twinkletoes and he was staring at ghostwriter like he was expecting a treat.

Hey! Where's that peanut butter sandwich you owe me?

After she took this picture, she spotted yet another demented squirrel a little farther up the tree. Of course, I jumped right up to the window, gave them a good barking at, and sent them packing.

When ghostwriter drove to her appointment today, she said she saw squirrels frolicking in almost every yard! There must be an Evil Squirrel Cartel convention!

But upon doing a bit of online research, we found that it's probably squirrel mating season. I was immediately reminded of a clip from the Secret Life Of Pets movie where Pops says:

Squirrels in love. How horrifying!

I went downstairs to my drive-through barking window to watch for those scurrilous scoundrels and love-sick (gag) little scofflaws.

Oh oh! Look look look!

There's another one! Good grief!

I've been working on my stalking technique, where I sneak quietly to the doorway before I zoom out and bark loudly. But he saw me and took off running, went up the silver maple, and then sat there shaking his tail and calling me all kinds of HBO words that I can't repeat here.

I did a thorough investigation of the entire yard.

Then Dad ran the roaring dragon noisy machine lawn monster thing to further scare them away.

I hope they get done with their revolting romantic rituals soon.

I'm going to have to watch a lot of Squirrel Launching videos to get my mind off of that!

Since we like to offer a bit of science on every post, here's a link below, to some information on squirrels, if you're interested. (It's a whole mess of scientific writing stuff with no pictures.)

But …

… I'd rather watch something funny!

And here's my all time favorite squirrel video. (I wish they were all like that!)

  1. We love the squirrel video. There's been lots of squirrels chasing eah other around the yard the last few days - squirrel speed dating I think.

  4. Mom always says the only thing good about squirrels and rabbits in the yard are that they give us some good exercise.

  5. Those dang squirrels of all kinds have discovered our bird feeders...we have red ones...the small crafty ones; a big fat black one, some 'regular' gray ones; and now there are those pesky gopher and chipmunks too. Sheesh. And the chipsters have wee ones, Ack! They did their love stuff already, BOL, BOL! And they all want the peanuts and the sunflower seeds the most. Maybe we need a trap to get them and then let them all out at the river edge way far in the city. BOL! Wait, petcretary should trap them and bring the to the courtyard at her work, they have lots of sunflower seed bird feeders there...and the residests wouod love to watch them!

You know what Chester? Today there was a beehive out there...there were bees in a tree and a bee keeper put down a regular hive, and somehow convinced them all to swarm into it. He took it away when it was dark...of course petcretary doesn't have a smartphone...and she doesn't take her camera to work either...I bet the buzzing was LOUD!

  6. I'm really worried now my Darling Chester, just how are you going to control that SWARM of squirrels????
Its like an invasion and the thought of squirrels in luffs!, arghhhhh?!?
Just make sure you get plenty of naps and rest up, don't want you to be worn out for the summer ball!!!!

  7. I saw a squirrel the other day, but not nearly as many as you seem to get in your garden! Perhaps you could send them elsewhere? Just put a stamp on them...

  8. Squirrel mating season!! Gross! It's a good thing you were there, C. Do not allow any of those shenanigans in your very own yard! Ugh.

    Love and licks,

  9. Bleah is right...the world love and squirrels should not be in the same sentence!! There is for sure not one thing to love about them. MOLMOL
Mom says she knows every critter has basic needs, food, water and shelter BUT good grief you give squirrels and inch they take a mile
    Hugs madi your bfff

  10. Hmm, we see you've gone a bit squirrelly today. :) We haven't noticed any more squirrels around than normal. We love to watch them.

  11. You job! Get those trespassers out of the yard

  12. Is that what's going on? The squirrels are out of control in my yard and in my neighborhood! YUK!

  13. I keep learning more about squirrels, and none of it sounds good. I'm glad we don't have them around here!

  14. You sure have a lot of work to do to keep those squirrels in line. Keep up the good work Chester.
