Long Time, No See

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your dedicated doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Sorry we haven't posted in such a long time! My ghostwriter has been working a lot at the nursing home, and in the garden lately, and things have been mostly boring around here. At least for me!

Anyway, we've been watching the TV news about all the terrible wild fires burning on the western side of the country. You would think that wouldn't affect us here on the other side of the continent in New York State! But, amazingly, smoke from those fires did reach us and we had some pretty spectacular sunsets. Here are a few in no particular order:

The moon looked pretty awesome too! In this picture you can see Jupiter, Saturn, and the moon almost perfectly lined up. (The blue dot is a reflection on the camera lens.)

In other news, some big trucks and several men have been working on the neighborhood roads.

The trucks laid down a thin layer of asphalt, and the men mopped the edges, set up traffic cones, and closed off our street from traffic for several hours. Every day they've been working on different sections of roads around the entire neighborhood.

While working in the garden, ghostwriter found a little toad. We find one around here almost every year at this time of summer, but they're usually a lot bigger than this guy! She brought him indoors and put him into the kitchen sink for a brief photo session, then put him back outside. Hopefully he'll help reduce the currently booming mosquito population.

Meanwhile, Sparrows Incorporated has had a population boom as well.

Wow! That's a lot of sparrows!

I think that a sneaky bunny has been coming around in the middle of the night to snarf up seeds the birdies drop on the ground. Ghostwriter found evidence of his presence while she did a pooper-scooper walk around the yard.

I've been tracking a scent underneath the hostas …

I know ghostwriter hates it when I stomp through her flowers, but this is an important cocker spaniel hunting doggie duty.

This time of year we take time to remember our angel doggies who passed over the bridge:

Miss Ginger passed in July 2010. She was the beautiful princess of the house, and loved chasing bunnies. She also had a wonderful singing voice and provided musical entertainment every mealtime.

My best friend Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel, Doggie Chief Inspector, Comestibles Division, left us in July 2016. Many long time readers will remember Joey dog. He was my partner in the Double Doggie Homeland Security System, and the world's best food watcher.

We never forget our angels.

  1. We always love seeing your Angels.

The smoke from the fires has been here for over a week now; Mom says it gives her a headache every time she goes outside. We hope the fires stop soon - so much loss for so many.

Those rabbits are here too, but we haven't caught one yet.

Woos - Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  2. There is so much going on you must be exhausted. We know you will catch that rabbit. You are on the trail. Bark at you later.

  3. Oh Chester, it is FABulous to see you my furiend! And you are lookin' MAHvelous!!! I knows, the smoke is kerazy! What is nuts is that we haven't had it here (paws crossed it stays that way) cause the winds are blowin' east instead of west, so we have had some pretty clean aire for once! Anyhu, I hopes it stops soon. sigh.
Holy burdie poops! Those are LOTS of sparrows!!! Probably cause you guys have had lots of lovely rain, the burdies are plentiful. We haven't, so not as many burdies this year. it's sad.
I hopes you gets to chase those bunnies!!! We don't have those here, so I don't gets the pleasure! BOL!!! Gives them a good barkin' from me, k?
    I loves seein' your Angels....🥰💝
    Ruby ♥

  4. we would say we missed you Chester, but we were AWOL for most of July! The Pawrents always have what they think is great reasons! You have rabbits!?! We don't get rabbits here, but we do have loads of other critters. Right now we have 2 fawns hanging out in the yard! And Thanks for sharing your befores with us! We always love to hear about our furrends fur families! We hope you have a terrific bunny hunt!

  5. Your smokey sunsets are beautiful! Believe it or not, the smoke reached us too. We pray every day for the fires to end for so many. They are just awful! We never forget our angels♥

  6. WOW Chester give GW a standing ovation for the moon shot.
I did not know Princess Ginger ...what a lovely lady she was.
Joey I did know and am very happy to remember all his great reporting and how you and Joey were the best of buddies.
    Hugs Cecilia

  7. It's great to see you, Chester. Not much going on around here either. Those mosquitoes sure have been blooming since we got so much rain in July. We like looking for rabbits (and those treasures they leave behind) in our yard too.

  8. Come on, little toad fren. Do your job. *eatthosebugs

    Love and licks,

  9. Hi Chester!! Looks like you have been very busy! We always love seeing what the birdies and bunnies(and froggies) have been up to in your yard, looks like you have everything under control!

We sure hope they get those fires under control real soon!
    Jakey and the Gang

  10. Your angels are very precious ♥

We had that smoke here too, and its hazy here during the day, and reddish at night, colors the moon, and the sunsets just like you described. Great catch of the moon with the planets.

Some bunny or woodchuck is eating all our violas in the woodsy part of our yard...
And the mosquitoes have made it their mission to eat us alive!

At work the other evening there was a family of sandhill cranes (Parents and a youngster), strolling/lounging on the grounds. I saw another pair when I was at the dentist, yesterday.

Chester tell your GW to not work so much...petcretary cut back to two days a week, and she loves it that way:)

  11. Life at The Daily Bone is never "boring" Chester ... so many interesting things you've shared ... and though we didn't get to meet your sweet Miss Ginger, we knew dear Joey and we're sure they're happy beyond the rainbow. Take care dear friend and tell Ms G.W. she should not WORK so hard ...!

  12. I'm sorry our smoke is blowing on you instead of us. It can make pretty sunsets, but it's hard on noseys!

  13. Hi friend, Ojo here! The smoke is going pretty much everywhere this year! Also, did you chase those squirrels? Also, did you catch the bunny? Also, we remember Joey and cannot believe it has been five years already since he walked over the rainbow bridge. We remember him fondly!

  14. I found a little toad/frog this morning, hiding in an old and rotting tree stump. He was tiny!
