Birds and Blooms

Greetings to one and all! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Take a good look at my overgrown fluffy shaggy coat! Obviously, I was overdue for a visit with my groomer, Miss Jacquie. Here I am with my new look for the warm summer days ahead.

It's been a very busy week, and I have lots of news! For our first story, my NC associate Angus B. Terrier saw an amazing sight.

A great, big turkey vulture landed on his porch railing and showed off his magnificent feathers!

Wow! I sure hope that big buzzard didn't leave any "presents" for Angus and his humans to clean up.

Moving on to our next subject, look at all the flowers blooming!

We've had a lot of rainy days lately. But today the sun came out and it was snowing! Look closely at the picture below, and you will see hundreds of tiny white specks lit up by the sun!

Don't see them? Here's another look with the camera filter on dark:

Actually, this is a blizzard of feathery cottonwood seeds floating through the air. The local kids were riding their bikes around enjoying this yearly spectacle of snow in June!

My next report is an update on the Stodgy Robin Society.

Yesterday morning we saw two robin families catching big juicy grubs in the front yard, and feeding them to their babies. Last week we met one of their debutantes, Miss Dorothy Hoppington-Pinfeathers. Now here are her two cousins Edmund and Everett Chirpson-Wormsworth.

Gee, I'd hate to be an announcer at the Stodgy Robin Society Commencement Ceremony with all those complicated names!

Needless to say, I'd be rather tongue-tied!

And now I have an exclusive report from my kitty cat cousins.

Tiberius and Hannibal spotted two members of the Evil Squirrel Cartel lounging around on the roof of the house next door.

"This is outrageous!" said Maddie. "We'll be sure to keep a close watch on these miscreants and report on any illegal activity!"

For my last story, I found a teeny tiny eggshell. We've been seeing lots of chipping sparrows around lately, and hear them singing all day long. We think this little eggshell is small enough for one of their itty-bitty babies.

Chipping Sparrow Song

Good night everyone!

  11. That is a lot of news! Your flowers are amazing. Pierre spotted a huge turkey vulture sitting on our electric pole the other day. I was afraid it'd try to grab him so I made him come inside.

I hope that turkey vulture didn't try to get any seeds out of that bird feeder, it looks to be one that might spin him right off, BOL!
