Wild Winds

Greetings diligent readers. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your steadfast doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It has been a turbulent few days here in Western New York. Wednesday we had freezing rain all day long. It covered the trees and grass and bushes.

Then it all melted by the evening. During the night the freezing rain started again. This time it covered the driveway with super slippery black ice. Dad's car was coated with the type of icy glaze that takes a hammer and chisel to get off. Fortunately ghostwriter's car was in the garage and has good snow tires. So she was able to take me to see my groomer Miss Jacquie.

Meanwhile, lots of birdies were enjoying the seeds we have outside for them. Not many people like starlings, but I think they're kind of pretty in their speckled winter feathers.

However, Mr. Mortimer Seedcruncher III, CEO of Sparrows Inc. was not pleased to see them eating all the suet, and pooping everywhere!

Last night the weather changed again, and now we have falling temperatures, and very high winds. The wind advisory said it would be 25 to 35mph, with gusts up to 60mph! Wow!

I went out and checked the Sparrows Inc. Winter Lodge in the Sticks.

Hi birdies! Are you OK in there?

A lot of them came out and chirped loudly at me, but they didn't fly away. I don't know if they were happy to see me, or angry that I bothered them. From all the noise they made, it was certainly crowded in there! I'm thinking it's a convention with try-outs for their annual birdie kick-boxing event coming in Spring.

Seriously! Have you ever seen sparrows fighting? It's no holds barred! I'm glad I got my season tickets already!

Well, as long as they're safe from the blustery wind!

I think I'm just going to stay inside the rest of the day and play with my squeaky toys. The wind is supposed to quiet down later. Hope everyone has a good weekend!

  4. We think that same wind passed through here along with the freezing rain and ice. We think snow would be much preferable:)

  5. Wow, sparrow fights. Those are better than chicken fights. You could charge kibble. You are so brave to go out in such weather.

  7. We had a bitof that freezing rain too, but northwest of here t was quite bad, and there are still lots of peeps who have no power. And we had all the winds trying to blow us away, too! Petcretary went to throw some sticks on our burn pile, and it was full of chickadees and titmice!

Now its cold, a bit blustery and we had snow again.
Upi do look swell with your newly groomed furs, but, sheesh, aren't you cold now??

  9. We have your high winds and cooler temps today, Chester. You look so sleek and very handsome with your shorter haircut. I got mine last weekend and I think I might be wearing a coat on my walkies this morning. It's really blustery out there!

  12. I hope you are all careful in that icy driveway, C. We don't need your dad or Ghostwriter doing the splits, or you doing the double splits! Yikes.

  14. Hi Chester, it's good to see you still have everything under control. We have 6 inches of snow now. It started falling at 1:00 PM and now it's 6 PM and it's still coming down. It'll be a challenge trying to wheel my way down snow covered sidewalks. Stay warm my friend.

  15. Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Your haircut looks very nice! But what about the wind you are talking about! Don't you need your fur for that! I guess your snow is gone. But the ice sounds cold too!

Did you save your fur for your bird friends? My people do that! I am not sure the bird friends like it, but our people put all our undercoat fur tufts out! Maybe that is a good reason for a haircut? In addition to looking handsome like you do?

So your snow is gone, but ours just came! I am sure we don't live that far apart, how can this be?

  16. We were almost in the 80s today and it is supposed to be beautiful all week. We are so glad because we missed our sunshine. Ice can be very scary. Your haircut looks furbulous!
