Happy Doggie Day

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm  your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My ghostwriter came down with a horrible, terrible, nasty, rotten cold yesterday. She had to do something she would never ever want to actually do: call in sick on the weekend. She feels bad that because she's sick, somebody else was probably called in to cover for her and got their weekend ruined. She spent most of yesterday moping around, coughing, and sniffling. This morning she was a little better, but still super tired with ribs aching from coughing. She says, though, if she had gone into work and passed this virus on to her little old people at the nursing home, it would probably kill them, or at least land them in the hospital. I think she did the right thing. I hope she doesn't get in trouble for it.

So I went out in the back yard with Dad and helped him cut down some branches from the lilac bush.

Look look look lookie look! (Do you see me behind the sticks?) Wow! Here are some prime sticks for any doggie to chew, play with, or fetch (if you cut them shorter.) They all have rough, peeling bark, and lots of interesting insect holes in them, along with scraggly half dead branches growing out of the ends. Despite of the insect damage, the wood is very strong and heavy, and should provide years of enjoyment. When you're done playing with them, you can toss them into the fireplace. I usually charge the low, low price of two yum yum doggie treats each. But in honor of National Doggie Day, for one day only, they're buy one, get one free! But you have to hurry. Dad will be putting them through the screaming dragon, noisy, screeching, scary machine stick shredding monster thing soon and turning them all into mulch.

That's it for today. We hope you all have a great time on National Doggie Day! My ghostwriter will be going to bed early tonight and hopefully will feel a lot better tomorrow.

  1. Ghostwriter made the right call staying home, both for herself and for the residents. We sure hope she will be feeling a lot better tomorrow.

We would love a big stick - maybe we can get our Dad to do some tree trimming. Mom says no way because he almost cut his index finger off a week ago with the shrub trimmer:(

Happy National Dog Day - we vote for making it a whole week!!!

  2. Oh, yes, your poor Ghostwriter sure did the right thing, cause not only will her little people get it so will the other staff...and it will be an epidemic in her workplace, spreading like a wildfire...ask petcretary how she knows...at her work, if she calls in on a weekend she has to make it up on any weekend she is off at the workplace's boss's convenience to fill in any empty spot. Even on a different shift that she might not want to be working. So often there are staff there that shpuldn't be. Petcretary herself, hardly gets sick...(Shhh, she doesn't want to jinx that)...she takes loads of vitamin C and Epicor, among other stuff, keeps her immune system tip top. She has weathered flu epidemics, gastric issues and other respiratory troubles. Too bad it doens't help with allergies. And working part time helps too...she mostly only works at most 2 days in a row...

Sending get well wishes and Dalton adds his waggles, along with some good loud Pipo Purrs!

Hey, there are tags on some of those sticks...are those the price tags so you can sell them, Chester? Maybe they can be rooted to make new shrubs. How pretty in the spring!

  4. OH no Chester we are so sorry GW caught that nasty bug. Colds are bad but horrid in the summer.
We agree that she should have stayed home. NO spreading of those germs to the elderly.
Looks like you and dad had a fun productive day
    Hugs madi yoru bfff

  5. Ghostwriter did the right thing in protecting the residents and hopefully helping herself to getting well soon. We hope we aren't too late for the 2 for 1 stick deal. Our mom is on her way to your house right now. It would be easier if she knew your address but we told her to look for a pile of sticks in Henrietta somewhere with you standing next to them. That shouldn't be too hard to find. BOL!

  7. Ghostwriter made the right call. If you are sick you really don't want to make everyone else sick too.

  10. Your Ghostwriter absolutely did the right thing by staying home sick. NOBODY, old or young wants to be around somebody coughing, sneezing, and sniffling. Mom always hated it when the kids or other teachers came in sick.

  11. We are sending healing thoughts and prayers for the Ghostwriter. She definitely made the right decision to stay away from the retirement home when she was sick. Those are some serious sticks!

  12. Sometimes admitting defeat is the best thing to do and not getting her patients ill is probably the right choice!

Those sticks look like a great toy! I hope you will be allowed to keep one for yourself!
