Lighthouse Day

Hello. This is The Daily Bone Happy Lighthouse Day edition, and I'm your doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Neither I nor my ghostwriter have ever been to a lighthouse, even though we live not far south of Lake Ontario. I was beginning to think I would not be able to participate in today's Blogville Lighthouse Day blog hop. But then, to my surprise, I found a great picture from my archives.

My Jason human playing his trumpet near the Oswego Lighthouse.

There is a lot of history to this lighthouse, and it is well summed up on this site below:

Lake Ontario can get dangerously stormy at times. Because of one big winter storm that caused the death of six men in December 1942, this lighthouse is said to be haunted, as the whispering voices of these men can sometimes be heard in and around the site. (I hope they enjoyed Jason's trumpet playing!)

  1. Yay and kudos Chester and GW for finding this photo of Jason with the lighthouse in the background. What an interesting and great photo. We are so happy you are joining our hop. Mom loves all light houses...the ones on rocks this the OSwego Lighthouse are most beautiful.
Hugs madi your bfff and Mom

  2. PS we meant to thank you for the links too. It is amazing the stories behind the early lighthouses

  3. What an amazing story of some very brave men. I used to live right on the shores of Lake Eire and have seen some incredibly powerful storms.

  4. We love lighthouses, of course here in iowa instead of oceans, sand and lighthouses, we have corn, soybeans, and cow poop. Sigh.................Mags and Gusser

  5. Oh how exciting, a HAUNTED lighthouse....shall we go and explore it together Chester? Will you hold my paw just in case I get frightened?
    Loves and lucky kisses

  10. Wow, That picture was just right for this day of lighthouses!
Petcretary had an appointment today and it was in a building named The Lighthouse! (Though it looks not at all like one, BOL!)
When she lived on the east coast years ago, there were lots of light houses there...the most famous perhaps being the one at Peggy's Cove, NS.

  11. That's a beautiful lighthouse, Chester, and we wish we could hear Jason playing his trumpet!

  12. That is a cute lighthouse you found in Oswego. We had to dig through our pawrents pictures to find some to show too. We've never been to a lighthouse either.

  13. What a good find! I would never have spotted the lighthouse if you hadn't told me it was there.

  15. Hi hi hi! Ojo here! Clearly you and your ghostwriter must come visit us, because we live near many lighthouses! And the OCEAN! You should come play! (And I don't mean play trumpet, even though that is a very lovely picture. I mean play on the beach and chase critters with me!)
