Sky's On Fire

This is a TDB Special Report and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Last night we saw a spectacular sunset!  It started out as just some clouds moving in.

But look what happened next:

Wow!

Of course my ghostwriter has a scientific explanation for why the clouds looked like they were on fire. The fine feathery appearance of the cloud bases is actually something called virga. That is, rain that's falling from the clouds, but evaporating before it hits the ground. In this case, it's being lit up by the red rays of the setting sun.

It seems there's a scientific explanation for everything. Harumph!

Does anybody see a pair of eyes in this picture of the clouds?

  1. Chester please thank GW for the explanation...those are sure some purrty skies it has been so hot here we need some rain. High 90's for 3 days and heat index in triple digits. They say relief is on the way....tired of summer already and it isn't officially here yet

  11. Hi Chester! First, let me apawlogize for not visiting much (we do come by but don't comment often) ... especially since you are so GOOD about coming to see us!!! Our hu-mom has either been superbusy or under-da-weather (whatever that is?) ... anywayz: we wanted to tell you that those little guys aren't squirrels, tho we have plenty of them trying to eat all our birdy food ... but they're more in "our family" as they are DOGS ... well, actually, they're prairie dogs! Aren't they cute. I think they're in the rodent family (not dogs) so I don't know why they're called "dogs" except they kind of make a barking sound. Silly. They live underground and they are super fun to watch and very playful and always busy doing things. So: thank you again for always coming to visit, we'll try to come over to see you more often! 13. I'm with you, C. I prefer clouds to just be magical. And yes, I see the eyes. They're spooky!

  14. Dear Chester,

That sky looks scary! Did you bark at it?

Also, Ojo says that we should all team up. I am a good critter-blocker - I stand in the way and chase running critters back to Ojo's mouth. I bet with the three of us we could catch that chipmunk!
