Wings On Wednesday

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your fervent doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I had to go to the vet this morning and got three, count 'em, three shots in my rump! I was a good boy about it. Then they stuck my front leg with another needle to take some blood. Whew! I was very glad to get out of there!

But that was nothing a good nap couldn't fix!

The big story today is this:

Do you see what I see? Over in the neighbor's yard is a flock of starlings. All of a sudden, they came over to visit our yard! Wow!

I had never seen so many birdies before. They were really noisy too. So I barked.

They all flew over to the neighbor's roof!

Then they all left.

Bye bye birdies!

Meanwhile, the Stodgy Robin Society watched all the frantic starling activity from their perches high up in the silver maple tree. They've been hanging around there for the last couple weeks trying to stake their claims on the local properties.

I asked one of them for a comment on the starling flock activity and their hasty departure. His name was Mr. Seymour Pinfeathers III and here is his reply:
"Good riddance, I say! They eat up all my worms and hawthorn berries. Hmmph! Why last summer I saw a couple of starlings cram all kinds of leaves and sticks and trash up the neighbor's dryer vent where they were building a nest! A downright fire hazard they were! Oh, and Mr. Spaniel, I'll be putting a good word in for you with the landlord, Mr. Seedcruncher from Sparrows Incorporated, for barking and scaring that riff raff away! Thank you and good day sir!"

Gee! I never thought of that!

In other news, as you can see, we have a bit of snow on the ground. It's very cold and windy out too. Ghostwriter says it looks like winter clouds in the sky. They're zooming by really quickly!

The weather forecast says it's supposed to go down to zero degrees by the weekend, and maybe  we'll get some more snow. That's all right by me!

My chilly colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel says no thank you. He'd rather it stayed warm.

By the way, it's his birthday next week on the 15th. He'll be 14 years old!

Haha! He'll officially be an old fart!

  2. Sorry about all the rump shots, but as Mom says, it was probably all meant for good reason:)

All those starlings have been settling in on our front lawn too. Lucky for them we don't have access to the front yard or we would chase them off in a nanosecond.

  3. Glad the vet went well. The birds were kind of scary . . . maybe that is just because Lady watched the movie the Birds once upon a time.

  4. Crikey Chester .... you're a right comedian, aye?? How does poor Joey put up with you?? Old fart, indeed!! AND then you have a chuckle about it. It's ok Joey ... I don't think you are an old fart. Just a very distinguished older gentleman. Happy birthday for next week mate. I won't be around so please accept my early wishes.
Crikey those birds were a bit much, aye?? Maybe you're not going to get any big snow this year ..... just big flocks of birds!! Instead of a white sky you've got a black one. Scary!!

  11. Ouch!! Glad that's over with...

Silly starling conventions. Did they pay rent to convene on your or your neighbor's property??

Glad you barked em all away!
