Work

Hi. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your disgruntled doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My ghostwriter has been working too much lately. I always know when she's going to work because she wears the white pants. When I see the white pants, I give her the cold shoulder because I know she's going to be gone for a long time. Yesterday she left at 1:30pm to go to a meeting at work, and then worked a 12-hour shift. She didn't come home until almost 4am! She didn't do the regular routine of playing with me, having a snack and a glass of wine, after which she lets me out for the last business of the day. Nope. This time she came home, hardly said hello to me, and went right to bed.

I think she should retire.

Flowers and More

Greetings and welcome to The Daily Bone. I'm your faithful doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel. I have a few stories to report today.

Last week we showed you pictures of ghostwriter's irises in the garden. Almost all of them bloomed by then, except for her absolute favorite one that's named Hello Darkness. It's so dark purple it's almost black!

The peonies are also starting to bloom this week.

Here's a surprise picture. A dragonfly decided to perch on an iris bud.

We have a clemetis vine that comes up every year, and climbs up the fence. It has gigantic, amazing purple flowers!

My next story is from the nursing home where our Oma  lives.

In the courtyard a mother mallard decided to make a nest, and is now raising eleven ducklings! Wow! Ghostwriter couldn't get all eleven into one picture. One or two were always hiding somewhere. The nursing home staff got them a little swimming pool and some bowls of food.

I wonder how all those ducklings are going to get out of the courtyard that has buildings all around it? Maybe they'll have to wait until they grow up and are able to fly out.

Aunty Linda is bringing Oma to my house to visit me today. I can't wait to see them! They're going to stay here for two days. On Saturday everyone else is coming for a visit too.

Ghostwriter is planning on cooking lots of delicious food. She was out shopping for groceries almost all day yesterday. Now the fridge is packed. I'll be sure to get samples! Yum!

For my next story, here's a picture of the garden at the nursing home where ghostwriter works.
Do you see what I see there?

No, it's not the doggie statue. It's not the flowers or the nice white arch or picket fence. Look at the lower left corner of the picture. Do you see it now? It's a dastardly chipmunk! Ghostwriter says he's always out there whenever she looks! Wednesday evening she saw three of them scampering around and stealing birdie seeds from the feeders!

I think there's a chipmunk living near my yard too, and he hides in the wood pile. I can smell his stinky little footy prints!

And finally, my last story is about my Florida associate Miss Charlee. She's entered in a doggie sleeping beauty contest called Pooped Pooches to win three days of free doggie day care at TLC Animal Hospital and Doggie Daycare.

Please go to this address below and scroll down until you see this picture and then click on "like."

That's it for today. I'll be sure to give you a full report on the big family get-together, and the yum yum food we're going to get.

A Proper Flower Friday

Hello everyone! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

The irises are blooming, and there are lots of them this year!

Wow!

For my next story I'd like to talk about the Blogville Memorial Day BBQ, Amusement Park, and Concert. Unfortunately ghostwriter had to work on Memorial Day. But I was able to sneak away and have some fun with my Blogville friends.

Here I am sharing a puppachino ice cream cone with my dearest Princess Leah. Yummy! That's Hazel and Oreo on our left enjoying a strawberry ice cream cone.

But soon after, we had to get into costume to perform at a concert as Diva Slippers and the Wizards!

(I've been practicing my howling for months now!)

Princess Leah did a special solo just for me! Isn't she lovely?

To see all the fun, and hear the music, please go over to Madi's place:

Abby Lab provided the most delicious cuisine any doggie or kitty could possibly want. Yum! Make sure you check it out here:

Ruby had the Margarita truck loaded up with wonderful drinks!

For more barbecue details, hop over to Arty, Jakey, and Rosy's doggie blog:

Madi hosted a blog hop as well. When you go to her site, please be sure to check out the links to other Blogville friends who had fun that day. I'd like to say a special thank you to everyone who made this event so great!

Here are a few more pictures of our beautiful irises:

Back Yard Safari

Greetings friends! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your attentive doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My ghostwriter finally has a day off! So we spent most of it outside in the yard. We found a lot of interesting stuff without going anywhere, starting with this:

Look look look lookie look! Look just past the fence post, under the neighbor's umbrella shaped tree. It's a duck! We always have a few ducks checking out the greenbelt area for possible nesting sites at this time of year. But they never stay because the only pond is on the other end of the neighborhood.

Do you see him yet? He sees me now. He's hiding behind the tree trunk watching me.

Hi Mr. Mallard!

OK bye! See you next year!

Time for more exploring. Here's the compost pile. Lots of pretty blue forget-me-nots are growing behind it.

Here's the wood pile. It smells like bunnies and mousies and maybe chipmunks. I'm pretty sure there's a bunny living under the neighbor's deck. I wonder if I'll catch any bunnies this year?

We found a couple mysterious alien skulls. (Cue the X-Files Theme.)

This is a perfect dandelion poof. We sometimes see the little birdies eating the seeds from these.

Right underneath it were some tiny mushrooms growing.

Oh, and lookie here:

There's going to be a good crop from Joey's pear tree this year!

There are lots of good things to find in my yard!

One of the grackle baby gargoyles got out of its nest and is sitting on the top of the silver maple tree squawking noisily. I can't see it because of the leaves. But the parent birdies are giving me the stink eye and making threatening sounds, like, "churk churk churk churk churk churk!"

Yeah, I hear you up there!

Whew. It's hot out today! You may have noticed that there are lots of helicopters on the ground everywhere. Not those big Chinook choppers the National Guard flies around here all the time.

Photo from our archives.

But seeds from the silver maple tree. They're those yellowish-tan little things shaped like propellers. There are thousands of them! When they fall, they spin around like pinwheels through the air. The tree still has plenty more getting ready fall.

Oh, and there is one more thing we found today. But I suggest you look at this video first.

There are several more Lucas the Spider videos on youtube if you need an extra dose of cuteness. You can even buy a Lucas the Spider Squeaky Toy!

OK. Here's what we found by the edge of the garage door:

Do you know what it is? Ghostwriter touched it gently with the tip of a little stick and look what happened: oh oh! There they go!

This is a spider ball. A big Mommy garden spider must have made a web sac last Autumn (just like in Charlotte's Web) and laid lots of eggs in it. It managed to survive the long, cold winter, and wasn't eaten by any birdies. Now the eggs all hatched. Pretty soon all of these tiny spiderlings will go off on their own all over the garden to build webs and catch all kinds of nasty mosquitoes and flies! Hooray!

As you may know, we're all science geeks in my family, and think spiders are amazing. We never kill the spiders we find inside the house. We catch them and put them outdoors when the weather is warm. If it's winter, we simply let them go where ever they want.

And now, at the end of the day, I can finally see the moon, even though it's a bit cloudy, and howl a hello to my dearest Princess Leah. I hope things are well with you and your family across the Pond!

I can't wait for our performance on May 28!

But I might not make it to the amusement park that day due to ghostwriter's tight schedule.
