Flower Friday

Good day everyone. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Spring is proceeding nicely here in WNY, and we have a lot to show you today. First up, a couple days ago there was a surprise at the nursing home where my ghostwriter works. Tucked in the corner next to the front door was a tiny little newborn fawn. It stayed there all afternoon, while visitors were coming and going, school buses were driving by, and kids were walking on the sidewalk. The nursing home staff were very worried that the mother deer wouldn't come and get her baby. But sure enough, she did. We hope this baby is doing well now.

On the home front, the grackles and other birdies are busy raising their youngsters too. We found this egg shell on the ground in the front yard.

The Great Grackle Flying PTA (Poop Tossers Association) is still angry at us for not filling the birdie feeders, and have begun their messy campaign of bombardment of our cars. They obviously have enough to eat!

In other news, angel Joey dog's pear tree is starting to bloom.

I sure hope the weather stays warm enough for the bees to pollinate them so we get lots of yummy pears this summer. Here are a few more flowers from our yard.

Yesterday afternoon, this big truck stopped in front of our driveway and a guy got out to talk to Dad and ghostwriter. Apparently my humans are thinking about cutting down the gigantic silver maple in my back yard. As much as we love that tree, it's gotten way too big and could possible fall on the house if there was a big ice storm.

Just think what the Evil Squirrel Cartel will do if they raid the birdie feeders and then don't have that tree to scurry up when I go out to chase them! Hehehe!

I hope you all have a Happy Mother's Day this Sunday!

  1. We have heard that a mother deer will drop off a fawn and "hide" it but she will always come back for it. Your flowers are so pretty! You are going to have fun without that silver maple in your back yard, Chester☺

  2. Wow Chester...what a wonderful Spring in your mneck of Blogville..FLowers, Deer, birdy very cool!!!

  3. We're glad to hear the mother deer came back for her baby. That really was a safe place for it since predators would probably too scared to get close to the building. You sure have some pretty flowers in your yard.

  4. Beautiful, gorgeous flowers, Chester!!! That was so sad that the Mama deer left her baby. We never would have thought she would do that. So glad to know that she did come back.

  7. I was relieved that the momma deer came back for her baby. Everyone is getting such pretty flowers already!

  8. OH MY DOGS the fawn it just adorable. I will carry that image with me all day.
Grackles are a nuisance from the tip of the beaks to end of their tail feathers.
    I love love your blooms.

  9. Hi Chester, well if that tree is gone. It'll improve the odds that you'll catch those little pests. Yea we hope that the Joey dog tree does well. We miss him.

  10. I think the fawn is the cutest thing. Good luck with the grackle war. It is going to be bard. They have a better air force.

  11. That baby deer was the absolute CUTEST! We hope it is doing fine.

    Love and licks,

  12. I didn't know mommy deer would leave their babies like that! It's nice that the hoomans there were smart enough to leave it alone.
We hate to hear about trees being cut down, but sometimes it just has to be done. Maybe the Evil Squirrel Cartel will relocate their HQ?

  13. Nice to see many colourful flowers at your yard. So glad Mama deer came to get her baby out!

  14. Dear Chester Moo Cow is squeak-less...and she didn't have a cow bell thank goodness that might have freaked out the mail man

  15. Your flowers are so pretty. Those grackles are just plain evil, aren't they?? The fawn is precious and I hope it and the mom are safe and sound.

  16. Your blooms are beautiful! And why on earth would a momma deer make her baby stay there?? Who knows, only the doe, but she isn't talking, BOL!
Nasty grackles, we have starlings that do the same thing...and cowbirds.

Maybe a good trim will be helpful for that tree, instead of a complete cut-down.

  17. Chester your mail carrier might be our neighbor's son Steven. He wore shorts 12 months of the year from kindergarten thru college. He has since graduated college and moved. I often wondered what profession he chose.
