Greetings doggies and kitties, ladies and gentlemen.
This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.
Ghostwriter finally has a day off! She says she feels like she's been run over by a bus after working all those long hours. We doggies, on the other hand, are quite well rested.
But no napping now. We have a lot to report. I happened to notice that a neighbor had all of his fallen leaves neatly stuffed into plastic bags. What's wrong with that, you might ask?
Leaves are some of the most biodegradable substances on Earth! And you're wrapping them in plastic and sending them to a dump somewhere? Why not compost them? Here's our resident compost pile inspector, Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel standing on top of the heap.
Thanks Chester. As you can see, we have a wonderful and great pile of leaves here, topped by our Halloween pumpkin. Every year Dad runs the noisy roaring monster scary machine grass mower thing over the leaves. They get mulched up and sucked into the mower bag. He then empties it on the compost pile and on other spots along the east side of the yard to cover the muddy spots. Our observations show that by mid June almost all of these leaves are broken down and have become one with the soil, and Chester tracks in 50% less mud.
Here's Chester checking out the compost buckets full of yard waste, like wilted hosta leaves, milkweed plants, tomato and morning glory vines, and other plants ghostwriter cut down for the winter. All of this will go into the compost pile too.

Now, here's a quick creepy crawlie report. We've been finding ladybugs in our house! They're looking for a nice warm place to spend the winter. We love ladybugs!
Sometimes we find a lethargic wasp clinging to the side of the house. The cold weather will probably be this one's demise soon. We think she looks kind of sad.
The spiders have largely disappeared except for an occasional daddy-long-legs. This one is missing one leg. He declined to comment on this.
We have some great news from Florida! A couple of our good friends had a beautiful Irish Setter named The Lady Galadriel. But she passed away a couple years ago. Her owners were devastated! But now a new doggie has come into their lives. Meet Peanut! She's a pit bull/gray hound mix, and we hear she's a very sweet girl. (We think she's adorable!) Welcome to The Daily Bone, Peanut!
If you'll excuse me now, it's time for me to check my drive-through barking window for squirrels. But it looks like it's starting to rain.
So I think we'll be taking another nap.
