Last Day Of Summer

Greetings friends and fans! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your quintessential doggie host
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

I know I haven't been posting very often lately. My ghostwriter has been working a lot. Plus, not much has been going on around here. It seems I totally missed Pirate Day.  We enjoyed reading our friends' posts, though.

Today is the last official day of summer. Tomorrow will be the Autumn Equinox. That means the day and night will be of equal length. After that the days will start to get shorter while the nights will get longer. We went outside to the back yard for a few photos in the summer sun.

Hey, the sun's in my eye!

That's better!

Now, how about giving me that treat you
have in your pocket.

Ghostwriter says she'll miss the hot summer days with the big puffy white clouds …

… and the brilliant sun …

… and occasional storms.

In other news, ghostwriter got a chance to visit with a doggie named Gracie. She was at the nursing home with her human. Gracie is learning how to be a therapy doggie. Look how big she's gotten!

The last time ghostwriter saw her, Gracie was just a little pup!

I heard that Gracie likes to play ball. I wonder if she could come over and play ball with me?

Well, it's getting late.

Perhaps we should just sit back and enjoy the last sunset of summer.

Good night.

I still miss Joey dog. (Photo from about one year ago.)

Treats For Lexi On Yum Yum Sunday

This is The Daily Bone and I'm your hungry doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Sorry I seem to have my days mixed up lately. Usually Saturday is Yum Yum Day! But today is also Treats For Lexi Day, a tribute for Lexi the schnauzer who went across the Rainbow Bridge recently. This event is hosted by my friend Noodle at:
noodle4president

I'm sorry I didn't get to know Lexi very well, but as much as Noodle loved her, she must have been a great and wonderful doggie! My esteemed colleague, Angel Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel would have heartily approved of this tribute too. Remember that he used to host the Saturday With Joey Dog yum yum report on all things delicious. I'm certain he'll be watching today!

Yesterday Dad grilled up a big bunch of Italian sausages! Wow!
There's going to be some good eats this week!

I also checked our photo archives and found a good picture of Angel Joey dog demonstrating his best food watching expertise.

We are sending good yum yum wishes and hugs to Lexi's family today!

Flower Saturday With Bugs

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I am your observant doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

There really hasn't been much going on around here lately. Ghostwriter's been working a lot and hasn't had time to keep up with blogging lately. She wants her Blogville friends to know she's reading your posts, but might not always comment.

It's starting to cool off, especially at night. The farmers are beginning to harvest their crops. Here's a beautiful view of the fields along Route 15.

The drought continues. It's still dry as a bone around here! Ghostwriter has been transplanting irises, and found the soil is completely arid no matter how deeply she digs. She waters small parts of the garden every day, and the rest has to fend for itself. We have very few flowers, and not many bugs.

Morning glory.

Zinnia with a fly on it.

Gourds growing among the baby's breath.

A wasp mimic moth.

Sedum.

A very tiny spider on a hydrangea leaf.

Crane fly.

Pink roses.

Gold Tortoise Beetle

And now I'd like to show you a cartoon that pretty much sums up my own philosophy
on tennis balls.

Take it From the Tinkersons

Rule number one: the tennis ball is always MINE!

Sleepy Tuesday

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your bright-eyed doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Ghostwriter came home from work last night at 3:30am! Good grief! She says it's going to get worse because a few nurses are leaving. That means the remaining staff has to fill in until new ones are hired and trained. I personally don't advise that she work these long hours. It interrupts my beauty rest! So now I'll have to make up for it.

But really, ghostwriter's already limping around on those arthritic knees. I don't think double shifts are going to help that!

Yawn!

I'm going back to sleep now.

Here's a picture from last February. Joey dog was a good napper too.

Never Forget

This is a special TDB and I'm your solemn doggie reporter.

Do you remember what you were doing the morning of September 11, 2001? Ghostwriter does. She was at physical therapy doing exercises. The radio was playing some annoying soft rock music, when suddenly there was an announcement that a jet had crashed into one of the World Trade buildings in New York City. Everybody stopped what they were doing to listen. At that moment, they all thought surely this must be an accident. Ghostwriter went home only to see on TV what was really happening. She saw images of people jumping out the windows of those high towers to their deaths. The TV soon stopped showing these because they thought it was too disturbing. But you can never un-see something like that! She and Joanna got into the car and drove to the Red Cross to donate blood only to find a very long line. They were turned away and asked to come back at a later time because they were overwhelmed with donors. It's been 15 years! Ghostwriter still remembers it like it was yesterday.
