This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.
I got a package from my Auntie Pat! When I opened the box I was startled to find:
Wow!
Thanks Auntie Pat! Don't worry. I gave one to Joey dog.
Cheeseburger.
Oh oh oh! I just remembered my favorite box picture! Here I am in a box at work. My family owned a business while I was a puppy. They weren't exactly planning on getting a new puppy when I arrived, so they took me to work with them. I played all day in the boxes and stuff in the back warehouse!
I have since outgrown most boxes, so now I just help my humans get boxes ready for recycling by breaking them down into smaller pieces.
I'm a good box breaker-downer!
Oh, and here I am climbing on some boxes on the day we cleaned out the crawlspace!
Hello. I’m your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel, and this is an infomercial for our patented Double Doggie Homeland Security System.
My energetic colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel and I would like to say thank you to our next door neighbor guy for cutting the lower branches off the blue spruce trees in his yard next to our fence, and clearing out the weeds from under there. We now have a panoramic view of the sidewalk that goes around your front yard and all the neighbors across the street from you. This has vastly improved the scope of our early warning program. We are glad to let you know that you now qualify for our free Double Doggie Homeland Security System.
This includes free barking 24/7. Sometimes we go outside as early as 5:30AM for doggie business and patrol duty. Last call is usually around 11PM, but can be as late as 2AM. If anybody walks, runs, rides a bike, scooter, or go-cart, or pushes a stroller along that sidewalk, whilst we are outside in our back yard, we will let you know with our unique double doggie stentorian alarm call.
A-wooooooooooo! Kid on go-cart at eleven o'clock! Bark bark woof woof woof woof bark bark bark woof woof bark!
We will keep it up until the stranger completes the entire length of the sidewalk within our purview, or until our humans yell at us to stand down and get back in the house, whichever comes first. We will also alert you to any suspicious activity across the street from your house. Whenever your neighbors arrive home from work, mow the lawn, or do any other type of front yard outdoor activity, we’ll be sure to let you know so you can go out and wave at them and say hello.
Oh, and you’ll never have to worry about the Evil Squirrel Cartel, The Conniving Chipmunk Consortium, the Bunny Militia, the Stray Cat Club, or even the Quacking Duck Empire invading your territory. We will promptly chase them all away. Annoying grackles or mourning doves? Squabbling starlings or armies of chirping sparrows? Say good bye to those noisy birds!
In case you’re wondering when the mail truck goes by, we’ll provide a chorus of loud barking to be sure you never miss that special delivery.
We also offer a complimentary drive-by window service.
You’ll never have to worry about us not getting enough rest. We take long naps to recharge our barking energy during the intervals when we’re not outside.
We hope you enjoy your new, comforting sense of safety and security while we doggies are on watch. And, as we said before, it’s all free! Thank you for your business.
The Double Doggie Homeland Security System. The best barking is always free!
This is The Daily Bone. Welcome one and all. I’m your humble doggie host Chester L. W. Spaniel.
Yesterday it was very hot and humid out. Then the thunderstorm hit and we had lots of rain. After that, my ghostwriter said that the wet roads were steaming as she drove to work.
But today something called a cold front moved in. It’s 60 degrees (around 17C) here now, with a nice breeze. It feels great! However, the Evil Squirrel Cartel, perhaps thinking autumn has come and it's time to fatten up, started a vigorous pear stealing campaign. They've been climbing around in our pear tree all morning. Our ghostwriter finally left the back door open so we doggies could run out the minute we see one.
Grrrrrrrrrr, evil squirrels!
Bark bark bark bark!
And now we'd like to present a new segment to The Daily Bone: The Science Geek Chronicles.
Whenever there’s a cold snap in the middle of summer, go outside early in the morning and take a careful look at the ground underneath your big trees. If you’re lucky, you’ll find a cicada. These are the big giant bugs that make a loud buzzing noise in the tree tops during hot weather. When it gets cold suddenly, they die and fall off their tree branches. We couldn’t find any this morning, but here’s one from last year.
It's as big as Joey's nose!
These giant bugs live underground for a long time. When summer comes, they emerge from the ground, climb up a tree, shed their skin, and fly away. This is an empty skin of a cicada. These are a lot easier to find than the full grown bugs! Just look at the lower trunk of your local trees. Have fun!
And now it's time for Joey's Yum Yum Report.
Here we have a lovely lunch with palak paneer, sliced fresh tomatoes,
and basmati rice, along with chai tea
and kesari bhath for desert.
Some delicious greens from a friend's garden.
What the heck is that thing?
And now for a fast breaking news flash. The squirrels are back! Time to go to work!
Zoom zoom zoom!
And that's a memo.
Oh, here's a great video about cicadas. Ours are not the 17-year kind, but they look similar.
Hello friends. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your humble doggie host Chester L. W. Spaniel along with my amiable colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel. Today, we have a photo essay for you.
We had to wait behind the gate while Mom took pictures of the flowers in the front yard.
Hey, how long do we have to be stuck in this joint?
When, uh oh …
What was that?
rumble rumble rumble
Yipes!
We're coming in!
It's raining!
We made it just in time!
This photo session's over!
I'll just watch from here.
And I'll just watch from HERE!
Meanwhile, on the TV: more planes shot down, more fighting in Gaza, fanatics taking over Iraq, glitches in Obama care, child refugees on our border, Putin, rockets and bombs, bodies taken to the Netherlands, IRS scandal, turmoil in Ukraine, car crashes in Erie canal, shooting in downtown Rochester …
Hello out there! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your faithful doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel along with my trustworthy colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.
There's not much going on today. Our ghostwriter has to go to work again at 3pm so we don't have a lot of time to write an in-depth political analysis. Therefore, we're going to just show a few random headlines.
Our good friend Charlee Puppy went on a car ride with Dan, but she kept trying to sit on his lap and do the driving for him. Wow, look how big she's gotten!
We didn't get to see Ryan yesterday because our ghostwriter had to work. (This work thing is getting to be a real bummer!) But he sent us a picture from his home on Planet Webster. Wow, look how big he's gotten!
One of our good friends, Sunny, posted a picture of one of her recent art creations. She's amazing and specializes in drawing anthropomorphic characters. (Wow, that was a big word!) Sunny does art for commission. If you like this picture, let us know. Maybe she will make one for you!
And now it's time for Joey's yum yum report:
Tuna casserole with steamed mixed vegies.
Paneer makhani with added vegies, basmati rice, chicken samosas, and coconut water.
This is the pear that the evil squirrel dropped. It was yummy.
Rotiserrie chicken with Italian bread and steamed vegies.
And finally, here are a few pictures of the garden. You'll notice the American Pollen Worker's Union is hard at work on the flowers.
So now we're back outside for our doggie security patrol. Have a great Monday!
Checking for mousies.
Securing the foundation.
Scanning for squirrels and chipmunks.
There's a big crow in the yard next door. But he's no threat to us.
