Squirrel Real Estate

Hello. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your proficient doggie commentator Special Agent Chester L. W. Spaniel, live, and on location at the big silver maple tree.

Look at this mess! Do you see all the leafy branches on the ground around the base of the tree?

They're everywhere!

Where did all this mess come from, you ask?

This, ladies and gentlemen, doggies and kitties, is the work of the Evil Squirrel Cartel!

Do you see the nest up there? We haven't seen this kind of activity since Spring!

It figures, since the Evil Squirrel Cartel has been amassing their nuts all summer. They must have accumulated enough for another down payment on their winter headquarters. Well, ghostwriter knows what to do about this:

Meanwhile, I will perform a detailed ground search for traces of other rodent activity in the yard.

A doggie's work is never done!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled program for this TDB news update!

Dad decided to get rid of those squirrels once and for all.

He says the wood underneath the squirrel nest will rot, and the branch might break and fall on someone. He got out the big ladder, put it right up to the Evil Squirrel Cartel's new condominium, and climbed up. He then knocked their entire nest right out of the tree! Hooray!

Look look look! It's all gone. The squirrels were not home for this event, but we can imagine they won't be very happy their winter headquarters has disappeared!

We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

Saturdays With Joey Dog

Greetings and good day everyone. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your professional doggie reporter Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel. We decided that Saturday will be my day for my yum yum food reports, and doggie behavior and employment commentary.

Today ghostwriter went to the local farm market.

There was a ton of fresh fruit and vegetables.

She bought a big pumpkin and some squashes, and brought them into the back yard for a photo session. Being an accomplished and well-behaved doggie model, I naturally did a pose for a perfect picture.

Meanwhile, my skittish colleague Chester L. W. Spaniel was busy sniffing around, and refused to sit nicely for a photo.

In fact, we were worried he might pee on the pumpkin!

So I graciously accepted all the yum yum doggy treats for this photo session. I even found a beautiful Autumn leaf for ghostwriter!

A cold wind began blowing, and it was starting to rain, so we went inside. Look what was on the table! There's going to be some good dinner in this house today!

Hey! Get out of the way Chester! You're photo bombing!

But there's a squeaky toy! I have to have the squeaky toy!

Ghostwriter had to put Witchy-poo on a high shelf …

… so Chester couldn't see her.

He can be such a dork sometimes.

Well, on to the main subject: food! Here we have a delicious grilled sandwich with chicken and swiss cheese, and some lovely sliced tomatoes.

Acorn squash and corn on the cob are ready to cook. There is a little brown sugar, butter, and a sprinkling of nutmeg in the squashes.

And here it is! Naturally I got a sample of everything.

And finally, for our last story, ghostwriter wanted to show everyone the picture she took of the deer that were grazing in the field behind the nursing home last evening.

That's it for now. Good night and food dreams!

Cold Friday

Hello friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

My esteemed colleague Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel and I had a great time at the Sadie Hawkins Dance in Blogville yesterday. I danced all night with my beautiful Princess Leah, had margaritas with our good friend Ruby, saw all our very good Blogville friends, and made a lot of new friends too. It was a great time, and we thank Dory and her brothers for hosting the wonderful event. Here are just a few links to see the fun:

We were all tired out when we got home, as you can see in this photo taken at 1AM!

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ghostwriter was sure to catch a picture of the moon peeking our from behind the trees and clouds last night. I hope Princess Leah saw it too!

This morning, we're ready to go! It's cold and windy out. But that didn't stop us doggies from  making our security rounds.

The sky was a uniform pale gray. However, we were surprised to see a halo around the sun!

A flock of geese flew over, headed south west.

Oh, and it's Flower Friday today too!

We're sorry to say we were unable to find any creepy crawlies today, except for this moth who was hiding in a window sill. It looks just like a dried leaf!

Ghostwriter wanted to announce that she's in her annual winter-denial mode right now. She will refuse to admit it's winter until the first big snow storm, or Christmas, which ever comes first. She is sure today's weather is just a cold front and that tomorrow will be 80 degrees! Oh, and there's still Indian Summer coming soon too!

We doggies have no problem with winter. Bring it on!

Happy October!

Hi everybody. This is The Daily Bone and we're your doggie reporters Chester L. W. Spaniel and Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

There's a lot going on today, but ghostwriter has to go to work soon, so we just have time for a quick hello before we head off to the Sadie Hawkins Dance in Blogville.

Hello!

We'll have a full report tomorrow.
