Disaster Update

This is a TDB Special Report. I'm your diligent doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Yesterday we had some high winds that did a lot of damage all over the Western NY area. Trees and power lines were knocked down and many communities are without power. We were lucky to have power this morning.

Our next door neighbor started working on cutting up that big tree that fell down and almost hit his house. Ghostwriter and Dad went out to have a talk with him to see if he needed any help, and decide what to do about the damage to our fence. When the tree roots pulled out of the ground, it left a gap between the ground and the bottom of the fence which was big enough for me to crawl under. I had to be hooked up to a long tie-out leash this morning.

I wasn't too happy about that! But they figured out a temporary solution by simply putting a couple logs in that spot.

I did a thorough inspection of these logs. I discovered they were oozing pine sap, which I got all over my ear, and now I smell like a Christmas tree!

But at least I can go out into my back yard without a leash again. Just when we thought everything was going to be OK, our power suddenly went out. That was about 1pm.

Oh no!

Fortunately, Dad got the growling dragon noisy machine power generator monster thing going just as it was getting dark!

We have no idea when RG&E will restore power to our neighborhood. Hopefully tomorrow morning. We'll keep you posted. This has been a TDB Special Report. Thanks for watching. We now return you to your regularly scheduled program.

  11. Wow Chester we can't believe that your power just went out yesterday afternoon! Our mom had to go get a new battery for our "growling dragon noisy machine power generator monster thing" to work and it did a great job for a few hours and then our power came back on. It's supposed to get real cold in the next few days so we hope your power comes back soon. Our grandma lives in Irondequoit and she doesn't think they will get power back for about a week!

  12. Thanks for your concern, everyone. We kept warm last night with the generator running. It runs for 13 hours on a tank of gas. We turned it off this morning so dad could check it over and refill the tank. Still no word on when the power will be restored here, but we're sure we'll be all right. Will keep you posted!

  17. Wow, glad it was just a part of the fence that was damaged by the big tree and not anyone's house. Be safe. Hope your electric is back on soon.

  18. Generators are such a blessing to have when you need them. We have one too, its hooked up to the gas and comes on 30 seconds after the power is off...we did not need it this storm:) But once it ran for several days. It powers most all the house, except the AC in the summer.

We had a tree fall on our fence a few years ago...but I did not have to be ted up, it was the top of the fence. Ond another time part of our fence melted from a big fire that burned the neighbor's shed...too close to our fence it was, and it also destroyed all kinds of trees because the wind was up that day and sent sparks which ignited the dry timbers...always something.

Glad your Daddy found a way to help it keep you inside for now...
