Lots Of Birdies

Hello everyone. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your extremely well-behaved doggie correspondent Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Did I tell you I was very well-behaved? Well I was! Today there were lots and lots of little birdies at our window box feeder. When the birdies go inside it, there is a one-way mirror so that we can see them, but they can't see us. It sits in the dining room window where the squirrels can't get at it, although, believe me, they've tried.

There were so many birdies today that they had to wait in line on top to get in.

As you can see in the picture below, I was watching them closely, but I didn't bark at them.

Me being a cocker spaniel, and a therefore a bird dog, this was very difficult for me to learn!

Just look at my self-control here!

Oops! They all flew away. But not because of me!

They came right back again!

There are about eight of them inside now! And one on top. There are dozens of them in the trees too.

Bonk! This one bumped into the window!

But she's all right. Just a little dazed.

Some of them landed right on the slippery top of the feeder, and did a little song and dance.

Ghostwriter says they were house sparrows, and house finches, with all their young ones who are just learning how to find food by themselves. There were families of cardinals, chickadees, chipping sparrows, and gold finches too, but we didn't get any good photos of them. We also heard some blue jays and crows in the neighborhood. We'll have to put out some peanuts for them.

Ghostwriter also said I was an extra good and wonderful doggie for not barking at them.

  4. Bravo Chester for not barking at the birds. Mom got some great photos of a hawk the other day. he was sitting on the neighbors power pole. Our dad saw him swoop down and catch a mouse in our big yard!
