Sky Lines

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your enthusiastic doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel along with my pragmatic associate Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

I've been getting a little concerned about the all the lines in the sky we've been seeing lately. Today there were times when I could look up see dozens of them!

Ghostwriter says these lines were made by jets flying way high up.

With all these jets flying around, you would think they'd smash into each other!

But somehow, they don't. I wonder why there are so many of them above our yard?

It looks like they're playing tic tac toe!

I could watch them all day long!

Joey dog here. You know, Chester was so engrossed with those sky lines, he didn't even notice something infinitely more important going on.

You see, Dad was cooking hamburgers and hot dogs on the grill! Yum!

As far as I'm concerned, Chester can keep sky gazing all day long, and leave the food watching to me! Yum!

  1. Mom flew jets for a lot of years. She has pictures that other pilots that were near her, that knew her, took of her contrails. There are certain atmospheric conditions where the contrails are a lot more visible like today. Planes fly separated from top to bottom by 1000 feet and then have equipment called TCAS that warns the pilots of someone wanders off course and is getting closer. 1000 sounds like a lot but they are also usually separated horizontally by a LOT more than that.

If you actually looked at a high altitude enroute chart you could see all these criss-crosses.

Mom misses flying but not getting up at 2 a.m. to do it.

    1. Ghostwriter says maybe in another life she'll be a pilot. She is always fascinated with flying things and loves to travel by plane where she tries to get a window seat so she can look out at the land below. She says distances can be as deceiving when you're looking down from one, as when you're looking up at one. Our good friend Angus flew all by himself from the UK to the USA when his humans moved to N. Carolina. He is a brave little doggie!
