Busy Day

Good evening. This is The Daily Bone and I’m your humble and barely conscious doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel along with my lethargic and soon to be comatose associate Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

Why, you ask, are we so sleepy? The answer is: we had a busy day. The weather was fine and hot with hardly a cloud in the sky. It was a perfect day for barking!

It started out with morning barking duty. As you know the Double Doggie Homeland Security System alerts everybody when the school bus goes by, and when the neighbors head out to work. We also sound the alarm when the mail truck passes. Bark bark bark bark! Time to get your mail!

After that, we had a lot of detective work to do. The Sneaky Shrew Squad and the Miscellaneous Mousie Mob have been active along the garden edges and the foundation of the house.

The Conniving Chipmunk Consortium has been fairly inactive in our area lately. I was just ready to take them off our BOLO list, when I found a lone operative hiding in the woodpile. I had to personally move several pieces of wood. But then, after a concerted barrage of barking the scoundrel retreated into the neighbor’s yard.

Agent Joey patrolled next to the hose and the air conditioner unit. All clear in that sector.

We were just about to declare that all's clear when a pedestrian walked by on the sidewalk!

Alas, there was no rest for the weary inside the house! Dad started a big project involving the back door. He used power tools. Yikes! We doggies are afraid of Dad’s power tools. It brings back memories of the Great Door Debacle of 2013 when he replaced every door in the entire house. Even though he had the new doors custom made, none of them fit quite right. He had to do a lot of banging and shouting and hammering and swearing and power sanding and power drilling … and oh, what a lot of noise!

Now whenever we see Dad with a power tool in his hand, we run and hide behind ghostwriter! Well, anyway …

I forgot what I was talking about now.

Yawn!

So, if you'll excuse us … we have a lot of sleeping to do.
