Sunday Night News

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your hard-working doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel. We have a very busy report for you today.

First we'd like to express our condolences to our dear friend Dory's family over her passage across the Rainbow Bridge this morning. We're going to miss your pretty smile and the unquenchable joy you put into every post.

Please visit her family at:

Now I have an update on ghostwriter's knee. She's still limping around on those crutches, but is generally feeling a lot better. She's just about fed up with those crutches, though. She can't go out into the muddy yard with them, so I brought a whole mess of mud into the house for her on my feet and splashed all over my belly too! Haha! Too bad she couldn't get on her knees to give me a bath. Dad wasn't to happy about that.

Our next subject is the local weather. Here in Western NY State, it can be freezing and snowing one day, and warm and sunny the next. Check out the picture below. The same thing applies here in Rochester NY, just 40 miles east of Buffalo!

More often than not, the weatherman can't guarantee his predictions. Ghostwriter's weather ap on her phone is wrong so often, it's laughable! I recommend the following weather forecasting device:

It's supposed to stay warm this week. But you never know. It could snow tomorrow!

This just in: My favorite miniature human Ryan was enjoying the nice weather with some ice cream.

Hey, when do I get some ice cream?

We had a beautiful sunset this evening.

The moon came up in the east right after it got dark. I hope my dearest Princess Leah is watching too. We have a lot to talk about with the upcoming Blogville Spring Break Party. Plus, we have some sad and tearful howling to do for our friend Dory.

In case you're a science geek like my whole family, here's something interesting. Do you see that little bright spot below the moon? That's the planet Jupiter.

To finish up my report this evening, I've had a few requests for a couple of Dad's recipes. We don't cook anything fancy at this house. Just plain simple stuff. Needless to say, these recipes are super easy to make.

Dad's Tuna Casserole
1 family size can cream of mushroom soup (undiluted)
1 can pitted black olives (drained)
1 box pasta cooked (whatever kind you like)
24 slices american cheese (cut into pieces)
2 cans tuna (drained)
Mix everything together and put into a rectangular cake pan. Bake at 350Âș about 30-40 minutes, or until top starts to brown.

Easy Vegetable Soup with Beef and Barley
1 big can diced tomatoes
3-4 carrots (chopped)
3-4 celery stalks (chopped)
1 medium size onion (chopped)
2 pieces beef shank with bone
1/2 cup uncooked barley
salt to taste
optional:
1/2 cup frozen green beans
1/2 cup frozen corn
1 cup shredded cabbage
Throw all the vegies into a big pot. Add tomatoes and beef. Add enough water to cover it all. Turn stove to high and heat to boiling. Add barley and stir well. Reduce heat to simmer and let cook about an hour, or until beef is done. Remove meat, chop it into little pieces, and return to soup. Give the bones to your doggie, so he can get every bit of that beefy marrow goodness. Yum!

These recipes were approved by the Yum Yum Coalition Doggie Chief Inspector
Joseph (Joey dog) Spaniel.

And now you know the news. Good night everyone.

  1. Oh Chester ...... I'm so sad on hearing about Dory. Mum always thought of her as her pretty pink Princess. She brought such joy to Blogville, aye?? I'm off to visit her family now. It's a visit I wish I didn't have to make. It's just too, too sad!!!!!!!

  2. That is sad about Dory, isn't it. We left her furmily a comment and a memento on her page...and petcretary snooped around and found her Email and sent the same memento to her that way.

Glad to hear that your GW's knee is feeling so much better now. Soon enough she will shed those sticks I am sure:)

Yummy recipes...but my petcretary says they are not paleo so unfur-tuna-tely we won't be eating them...sheesh, I would:)

And it sure was a lovely day here too.

  5. Wow, Ryan is getting so big - did he let you have a lick of that ice cream too?

We bet your Mom is really eager to get rid of those crutches, but tell her not to rush things - best to let the knee heal well. And Chester, next time maybe you should leave the mud at the door:)

Hope you have as nice a day there as we are having here.

We too are just so sad about Dory - what a loss!

  10. Wow Chester, that was one fully informational (and wonderful!) post. I love the post you left on another blog about having a moon howl to grieve for Dory. I'm not a howler but I did join you in spirit. I love the 'how to tell you're in Buffalo' and weather stone photos. Also, thanks for the moon and planets drawing, I try to look for stars every night (not always easy in the city) and was happy to learn that was Jupiter. Thank you!! to your Dad for sharing the soup recipe! I can't wait to try it!

  11. We're getting some nice weather here on the island and are getting outside to play whenever we can. Thanks for sharing the recipes - we'll modify the soup one to eliminate meat, only the critters here eat meat. Enjoy the sunshine!
