It's been extra hot out the last couple days. So I tried to go outside as little as possible, and instead enjoyed the wonders of central air conditioning. Ghostwriter had to go to work for the weekend, though. It seemed every day she came home looking like this:
If you think a nursing home is a quiet place at night, you'd be sadly mistaken! That's when something called sundowner syndrome—yes, that's a real thing associated with Alzheimer's disease—kicks in. All the confusion, yelling, screaming, climbing out of bed, falling down, putting the call light on every five minutes, etc. starts, and the staff is running to keep up with the mayhem. Oh, and you never say the "q" word (as in, "I hope it stays quiet for you") when you leave to go home because then you'll jinx it for the next shift.
Oh, but guess what? Look who came to visit the nursing home Saturday evening!

It sounds kinda nutty at ghostwriters nursing home at night. No wonder she has that over the top look on her face! The fawn is so cute.

We know Ghostwriter is not an easy one. You sure have to be a patient person to deal with all of that chaos. We are limiting our time outside because of the heat too. Those pesty biting flies drive us crazy and send Millie running for the back door too.

DeleteOMCs Chester now we know exactly what folks mean when they say 'you look like a drenched cat'. I don't do baths. That is a very cute little deer. I know the residents enjoy all the visits from the critters.
ReplyDeleteMOL about the paper towel and the vole. Mom is a 100% germaphobic. Dad told her he would have just used a towel too.

Mom and Dad know all about the sundown syndrome. A few family members have had to deal with Alzheimer's. Currently our Dad's sister is in a home for dementia patients. Fortunately a small group home, but her sleep patterns are crazy. Kudos to your Mom for her work - Mom says it is very demanding work and requires a great deal of patience (and strength).

That is an amazing nursing home visitor. I'm happy he stayed OUTSIDE. I'm sure he would've caused a LOT of confusion if he got in!

Thank you for taking care of the nursing home residents. I worked in a nursing home laundry when I was about 14 years old. It is so sad to see what goes on and when no family comes to visit. It was rewarding to sit and talk to those elderly folks.

You had a really cute visitor come by the nursing home recently. Hope your are taking good care of your mom after a hard day at work. Have a great day.

Oh boy. Petcretary knows very well all about that sundowner's syndrome. That's when the peeps can go all wack-a-doodle! Would you like a full moon with that? I recently had one lady telling me all the cows were in the wrong barns and so were the calves and horses. OMD!

Thank you Mrs GhostWriter for all you do for your peeps. Dementia is horrible to say the least. I hope your facility has AC? Ours does but then the peeps do not like it, and they crank up the heaters in their rooms, BOL! Try working in rooms that feel like walk in ovens.
The first thing on petcretary's mind when she gets home is do not touch me hubby, I NEED a shower!!
How sweet of that little deer to want to add some delightfulness to the daily routine and rhythms. We have deer around our facility, but I have never seen one that close. But coons? You betcha!
