Mushroom Time

Greetings friends and fans! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your earnest doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It seems we've been having a couple rainy days every week through summer and autumn this year. Dad has had to mow the lawn every week because it never dried up and stopped growing. (Good thing he has a great big roaring monster mower machine tractor thing that he just has to ride on!)

But the wet weather has been very good for growing mushrooms! Long time readers may remember that a couple years ago we had the gigantic silver maple tree in our back yard cut down. (There's a link to that big adventurous day below.) Now there are still a lot of old roots underground, that mushrooms are thriving on! Here are a few pictures:

Ghostwriter says this last bunch looks like a Smurf village. I didn't know what a Smurf is, so she said they're little blue guys who live in mushrooms.

You have GOT to be kidding me!

Don't I  have enough trouble chasing chipmunks and squirrels and bunnies out of the yard? Sheesh!

  1. That sure is a lot of different mushrooms, Chester. We have lots around our yard too. Our mom hasn't liked that she has had to mow the lawn every week this summer either.

  2. Wow, you have quite the mushroom farm. It looks great. Just when you think your work is done they give you a new critter to chase.

  3. You would be okay with smurfs, it’s Gargamel and his cat you have to worry about: they are nasty!

I always take lots of mushroom photos. So many different ones.

I will be seeing a neurologist about my CTS in just over a week and then we will talk about what is next to be done. It would be nice to get that sorted.

Miss O says hi back to you, as long as you don’t bark or chase. She was very particular about that.

  6. That's a lot of mushrooms. I am not allowed to go near them. Mom says they will make me cuckoo.

  7. Hi Chester! It is mushroom season here too! THey are everywhere now that we have had some rain! Even the Mushroom Pickers are happy. We thought it might now be a good as usual because of the Ho Hot summer, but they are growing like mad! We had to laugh at the Smurf Village! Mom even put on a video so I could see what they are! We hope you have a marvellously happy week!

  11. We have tons of mushrooms right now too. Some are quite large, and heavy, they are tall, and not very pretty. I wish we could find puff balls again, they are so yummy when you cook/fry/dehydrate them. The dried ones make a pizza yummy:)

We have no idea if any of our other mushrooms are edible, so they don't get picked, other than to clean them up...we trample them when we romp around the yard, playing bitey face.

    Smurfs, LOL, LOL!

  13. Wow, you sure found some wonderful mushrooms. I had a huge one in the backyard but I picked it and threw it over the fence so my pups wouldn't eat it. Wish I knew which ones were safe to eat.

  15. Hello Friends! That really is quite a "village" of mushrooms, and it reminds me that we've not (yet?) seen any in our yard like we usually do. It has been so dry, so that may be why. But they really are unique, and some don't even look real, do they?

Finally, thank-you so much for your always kind and supportive thoughts on my blog. You've made a difference for us, knowing I am being cheered on. You all are the best, and I hope all is well in your corner of the world! Have a good week! ❤❤
