First Snow

Greetings everyone. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your enthusiastic doggie reporter

Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Look look look lookie look! It snowed today! It started around noon and stopped about 3pm. We used our "look up, look down," strategy for finding the nicest pictures in our yard.

Look up at the beautiful trees through the snow-coated bushes! Look down at frosted chives.

Look up at the pretty red berries of the burning bush under a blanket of snow.

Look down at a lichen covered rock surrounded by fluffy white.

Despite the covering of snow, we still found some vibrant Fall colors.

Our garden Buddha had a blanket of golden leaves, under a canopy of sedum.

I'm wondering how long this snow will last.

By 5 o'clock the clouds were clearing and the sunshine was peeking through.

A little later the snow clouds slid away to the east.

Then the moon came up.

Just Pretty Pictures

Hello everyone. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

The rain and high winds blew most of the leaves off our trees. It also knocked at least half of the hawthorn berries to the ground. The damp ground was perfect for lots of little mushrooms to sprout. So without further ado, here are a few pictures from our yard.

Is there a treat under those leaves?

Do they smell like squirrel paw prints and birdie feet?

No, I'm not moving until I finish sniffing …

Anyway, my humans turned the clocks back one hour. Why they do this is a mystery to me, and probably every other pet in this country!

It Was a Dark and Stormy Night …

Greetings friends and ghouls. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your brave and dedicated doggie reporter Chester L. W. Spaniel.

It was indeed a dark and stormy night last night here in WNY! It rained all day, and then a big wind came blasting through the area. My ghostwriter had to work, so it was only Dad and me home to answer the door to trick-or-treaters. But we only had one group come to our door, because of the awful weather!

My associate, Mr. Bones Daily was hanging around outside the front door waiting to spook the kiddies. I wonder if that wind rattled his bones?

Don't worry! I'm back inside now!

Halloween is the only time he ever actually works. All the rest of the year, he hangs around in Dad's workshop in the garage, supposedly keeping watch on Dad's stuff.

Well, that's a 24/7 job!

Yeah, right.

Oh, and I think I did a great job last night!

Look at all the candy we have left! Dibs on the Butterfingers!

Hmmph, what a lazybones!

I wonder if he noticed the barbecue grill behind him? Perhaps Dad might be thinking about cooking up some ribs for dinner!

Anyhow, as I said, my ghostwriter had to work last night. In fact, she did a 12-hour shift: 3pm until 3am. She said the ghosties were out and about the little nursing home the whole time. The wind kept rattling the doors and making the alarms go off, and the power sometimes flickered. At times, it sounded like someone was walking on the roof, or shaking the windows, while leaves and sticks and Halloween decorations were flying through the howling gale outside.

She drove home very carefully at 3:15am. There was not another car or truck on the road the whole way home! Debris covered the road in spots, and the wind shook the car, while the rain threatened to turn into sleet. When she finally turned into our neighborhood, she noticed the every house was completely dark. The power was out! It didn't come back on until about 1pm today!

Meanwhile, my Florida associate Miss Charlee had a busy Halloween!
