… And Flowers Too

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your pertinacious doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

We have a lot to report today, so I'm going to get right to it.

Sunday we had a visit with our youngest miniature human, Lily. She didn't notice me while she was playing with the toys.

Oh, hello.

Doggie!!!

My ghostwriter showed her how to carefully pet my head and ears.

Nice doggie. Soft doggie.

I think she likes me! Hooray!

The last several days have been mostly bright and sunny. Wednesday afternoon, just as ghostwriter was leaving for work at 2:30pm, there was a double rainbow halo around the sun. Since she was in a hurry, she didn't get to take many pictures. But here is one:

A  halo like that usually means clouds are moving in, starting with high cirrus clouds with ice crystals in them. Sure enough, the next day was dismal, gray, and cool!

In other news, ghostwriter finally filled up the bird feeders. We've been seeing lots of nice little birdies, like gold finches, house finches, chipping sparrows, and cardinals. Oh, and of course, the gang from Sparrows Incorporated. The Stodgy Robin Society local chapter members still hop regally around the yard looking for worms. Debbie Dove and her family have been sitting on the grass picking up the seeds the other birdies drop from the feeders. It's been quite idyllic actually. Until …

Egads! It's those annoying grackles! Here's the big grackle boss Effluvium Scatterstool, and his wife Ditzy, and brother-in-law Stingy Sournote. They're not as nasty as they were earlier in the season, since their baby gargoyles, oops, I mean grackles are all grown up now. But they're still greedy. If you look carefully, by the rocks, Mr. Redson T. Cardinal is looking on hungrily as the grackles snarf up all the seeds.

Oh, and look who else was back yesterday!

Hey dogface! You still owe me a peanut butter sandwich!

It's alias Twinkletoes the rude squirrel! Well, I gave him a run for his money!

Grrrrrr …

OK, time for flowers.

I have one last bit of news.

A big thunderstorm came roaring through this evening! I'll have you know, I wasn't even a tiny bit scared! I'm a brave doggie! Besides, I was busy watching my humans eat dinner.

OK. Good night.

Birds and Blooms

Greetings to one and all! This is The Daily Bone and I'm your diligent doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

Take a good look at my overgrown fluffy shaggy coat! Obviously, I was overdue for a visit with my groomer, Miss Jacquie. Here I am with my new look for the warm summer days ahead.

It's been a very busy week, and I have lots of news! For our first story, my NC associate Angus B. Terrier saw an amazing sight.

A great, big turkey vulture landed on his porch railing and showed off his magnificent feathers!

Wow! I sure hope that big buzzard didn't leave any "presents" for Angus and his humans to clean up.

Moving on to our next subject, look at all the flowers blooming!

We've had a lot of rainy days lately. But today the sun came out and it was snowing! Look closely at the picture below, and you will see hundreds of tiny white specks lit up by the sun!

Don't see them? Here's another look with the camera filter on dark:

Actually, this is a blizzard of feathery cottonwood seeds floating through the air. The local kids were riding their bikes around enjoying this yearly spectacle of snow in June!

My next report is an update on the Stodgy Robin Society.

Yesterday morning we saw two robin families catching big juicy grubs in the front yard, and feeding them to their babies. Last week we met one of their debutantes, Miss Dorothy Hoppington-Pinfeathers. Now here are her two cousins Edmund and Everett Chirpson-Wormsworth.

Gee, I'd hate to be an announcer at the Stodgy Robin Society Commencement Ceremony with all those complicated names!

Needless to say, I'd be rather tongue-tied!

And now I have an exclusive report from my kitty cat cousins.

Tiberius and Hannibal spotted two members of the Evil Squirrel Cartel lounging around on the roof of the house next door.

"This is outrageous!" said Maddie. "We'll be sure to keep a close watch on these miscreants and report on any illegal activity!"

For my last story, I found a teeny tiny eggshell. We've been seeing lots of chipping sparrows around lately, and hear them singing all day long. We think this little eggshell is small enough for one of their itty-bitty babies.

Chipping Sparrow Song

Good night everyone!

Beautiful Blooms and Bugs Too

Greetings friends and fans. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter
Chester L. W. Spaniel.

We have some more flowers blooming in our yard right now.

The entire yard smells like flowers now!

This just in: after the sun set, we could hear the tell-tale buzzing of June bugs rising up from the lawn. Wow! I love chasing June bugs around! They're big and bumbly like stink bugs, but without the stink. Here are a couple that ghostwriter caught for me:

Um, hello. We're June bugs.

I hope you all have a great weekend!
