Spring is in the Air!

Hello everybody. This is The Daily Bone and I'm your doggie reporter  L. W. Spaniel.

It's been very windy here in Western NY. Over the last week, we've had some changeable weather. One day it's snowing.

What the #$%^&?

I know, right?

And the next day it's not.

But it's still windy!

The Evil Squirrel Cartel has been jumping onto our window birdie feeder a lot lately! Here's one trying the roof approach:

Sometimes they would jump up from the ground and look straight into the window as if they expected us to hand them a treat!

Ten thousand peanut butter sandwiches …

I'm getting tired of waiting.

Later, I happened to see two squirrels chasing each other around the pear tree, and wrestling each other.
My ghostwriter said they weren't exactly playing …

Oh … ew!

Then I noticed Mr. Cool Beans Cooper, our friendly neighborhood Cooper's Hawk was hanging around in the neighbor's oak tree.

I implored him to please snag a squirrel or two for his dinner.

He swooped away into the arbor vitae bushes, but I doubt he caught any squirrels. He did catch a sparrow, though.

Maybe we'd better focus on some of the nice things about spring around here. Below is a picture of a sap-sicle: an icicle formed by sap running down a maple branch. We were lucky to see it because it melted soon after.

We've certainly had some awesome skies lately.

Almost every day around 7pm, we see a big flock of turkey vultures fly over. They're really huge birds, with a wing span of almost 6 feet. It's amazing to see so many!

Check out this line of clouds on the west horizon:

This is how it looked ten minutes later:

After watching the clouds ruin another nice day, we happened to look down, and saw this little guy sitting on our front step:

At least he's not demanding ten thousand peanut butter sandwiches!

And despite the cold windy weather, we do have a few flowers:

That's all for today. As of right now, it's still cold out. But that could change in a minute!

You never know what Mother Nature has in mind.

Hehehehe

  1. You and cool beans need to work together to rid yourself of the squirrels

  2. The sap-sicle is so pretty and so are the beautiful skies and spring flowers! We feel so bad for the robins too when the weather is cold and snowy. Your squirrels are out of control, Chester!

  3. Gosh, Chester ~ don't think we've ever seen you with such a big, happy smile on your face! Guess it's the hint of spring arriving, mmm. But what we really want to say is that every time we visit you we are amazed at the "wonder" of where you live ... the skies, the birds and critters, the flowers and trees,
all of it! A most beautiful and ever changing place, you're one lucky pup!

  4. Chester I agree with June...that is one exceptional smiley face.
What is it with the squirrels this spring they are all cheeky and daring....Mr. Cool Beans Cooper needs to sharpen his hunting skills.
OMDs that is one very impressive sap-icicle. I have never ever NO never seen anything quite like that. Sending spring hugs to you, GW and your photojournalist

  5. We sure have had some crazy weather around here lately. How cool that you found a sap-sickle. The snow is definitely not done yet since it's snowing as we write this but at least it isn't sticking to the ground.

  6. We have also had some snow. Last week was pretty cold here. We haven't seen robins yet, and our flowers are not in bloom (although they are starting to peak out!). We do however have a squirrel problem, red, black, grey, all of them! Hope the snow stays gone for you. We just want to have grass! Lee and Phod

  8. We have that winter/spring battle going on here too...and the wind blew the protective tarp right off of the shed...it was weighed down with multiple heavy brick pavers, I guess we need to nail the pavers down, too...yup, as if!

The squirrels are all squirrely here too...BOL! There was a dead possum on the road here, it lost a battle with a car...but the turkey vultures were having a feast! We stand at the fence but they mostly ignore our barking...

Your springtime blooms are way ahead of ours! We only have snowdrops and tiny bluebells.
